Interesting seating on 777s with NF [G-YMMx variant]

Flew on the SIN route recently in NF and there's an extra crew rest area where 3K/4K used to be, and only three rows of two in the centre. So a total now of 12 seats. So there are four "A" seats, three each Es and Fs, and only two Ks.

Senior FO told me all the 777s on the kangeroo run are configured that way.

True story ;)

Some B777s are configured as 12F, BA use them on the longer routes.

More info here and here

Interesting! I never knew that...

And I always thought they don't assign specific aircraft to specific routes.

I don't know about the other configurations but those with the crew rest area (12F) are dedicated to the longer routes.

I still think it's wrong that 777s operate to SYD. Some routes should always be 747s in my opinion

Do some 777s not have crew rests then?

Yup the Kangaroo-run 777's always used to have 13 seats, rather than 14. And now it's 12 instead of 13. But I don't get your comment about "only three rows of two in the centre". That's all they have ever had, on every 777 with OF, isn't it?

I am not an expert, maybe a cabin crew can answer this one, I would say that all of them have at least some seats on Y for their rest. The G-VIIA has at least the middle seats of the last row Y.

Here is what thebasource says:

The second wave of 777 orders in 1998 for delivery from 2000 were for aircraft with the new Rolls Royce Trent 895 engines. These aircraft were also fitted with crew bunks allowing the 777 to embark on longer range missions. These aircraft are registered in the G-YMM* series (Year 2000 in Roman Numerals). A further four aircraft in this series were delivered in 2009.

Oz flights along with Beijing and MRU (perhaps a couple of others too) need the ER 777s, of which there are only a few I believe.

I took some pics off the vacated space on my only NF flight so far (that I've already posted on the NF tracking thread)

It seems like such a waste of space

Similar to the large gap SQ have behind the F seats on their refurbished regional aircraft.

Yes it does. But I'm confused, why is it there? People say it is for the crew rest? What crew rest, there is no seat there

The crew rest is behind there in effect where 14k would be. A curtain is pulled back and connected to the clips you can see on the ...bf.jpg photo. You'd have thought they'd extend it a bit with the extra space they now have, perhaps put in a jacuzzi for the pilots?

The G-YMM*s are 777-200ERs with more range than the G-VII*s (which also are technically ERs, but a lower weight version I believe). They op to/from PVG as well (I came back on one in 3A last month, an excellent flight).

DWFI Jun 17, 2011 4:53 am

If they can't fit that 13th F seat, maybe they could pop 2 Y seats in there? :D
They could charge £100 for seat assignments to those.
