How can I book a trip with a free stopover?

Trying to book:

NYC - PAR April 5th, 2012
PAR - LON April 12h, 2012
LON - NYC April 14th, 2012

I can only get it to work as a multi city and then the price is way up. Isn't there a way to do the return as a free stopover? When I check using miles it gives me the option but not when using cash. This is easter week so fares are already $1k a person in economy...

Thanks.

If there is less than 24 hours between arriving and departing flights then it counts as a connection.
Also, if you book a redemption, (proper) stopovers are free.

Some fares allow free stopovers, others do not. You need to look into the specific ticket rules of the fare you are seeing, but typically the cheapest fares do not allow any stopover at all. As mentioned by andset1191, your only way if you want to book on oe of the cheapest fares is a stop of under 24 hours which thus does not count as a fare. Also, be aware that with a stopover, taxes will go up quite significantly both because of extra airport taxes (standard) and because you become eligible to the British government air tax on the LHR-NYC segment.

Maybe try an open-jaw NYC-PAR and LON-NYC, with the train between PAR and LON. Even cheaper the other way around as you won't have to pay the UK APD ex-LON, which is GBP60 each.
