Probably said already - this sounds like the whole booking (Dublin -Barbados) was made via BA, and if I've read it right, it's on the same PNR, in which case BA think it's do-able, otherwise they wouldn't have sold the the ticket - min connection time etc etc. I'd check with them what is an acceptable means of transport given THEY sold the ticket. It has to be within reason - coach/ train/public transport etc. Use that means of transport, sit back, relax and if it goes wrong then you have followed BA's "process" and they should be responsible.

Of course this is very much subject to traffic.

Just my two pence worth but this is a family traveling right? Not a sole traveller who can run and grab a bus/train whatnot. Just walk through in your mind the entire process of getting a family together with all their gear, cases and things and imagine the chaos if you don't have the easiest point to point journey possible. Trains to buses to....oy vey.
This is preamble to (unless someone has suggested a better workable single vehicle transit), walk do not run to your computer and check www.londonheathrowcars.com
I use them exclusively for all transit to and from LHR. From experience, they are far less expensive than a black taxi. You can book them online, or phone with questions, they will be waiting for you at the arrivals hall as soon as you exit and bundle you into a waiting vehicle and speed off.
Or, if you have mobile access, you can phone them as soon as you land and the car will be waiting at the kerb for you and you can just hop in.
My recollection is that if you book in advance, they monitor the arrival time of your flight in order to avoid extra charges to you that can be incurred by other companies if the driver shows up at the arrival time, then has to wait around for a late flight.
It's going to be close, so the fewer moving parts you have to worry about the better on that transfer from LHR to LGW (speaking from experience here.)
You can call and ask them for their advice on how long this journey takes normally at the time you will be making it. They do it all the time, so will be able to advise, as well.
Good luck! And happy trip.

All he was doing was pulling your leg about the weather at your destination, so no need for the swearing.

You might find that using a baggage forwarding company like First Luggage to send your bags straight from your home to BGI would help alleviate your concerns.
Without bags all you will have to do is check in online and print your own boarding card and then when you get to LGW, even if you are quite late, you can just make a dash for it through security.

Most weeks , I arrive in LGW at 8am and manage to catch a flight to LHR for 11.30am
I have put various ideas below:
1) Taxi- Not a Black Cab, there is a Private Taxi company (Checker Cars) at the Airport, cost should be in the region of £120.00 (time 60-90 mins)
2) Mini Cab- Many around the LGW area -PM me if you need a number , cost £60-80 (time 60-90 mins)
The worst I have ever had was 2 hrs, but even then you should have enough time , you should clear customs no later than 8.30am if you land at 8.05am
3) One possible other route , take the Gatwick Express (30 mins) to Victoria , they leave every 15 mins , then take a Black Cab from Victoria to T5 (cost would be £60), you are going against the traffic coming into London, so shouldnt be a problem once you hit the A4/M4 , this shouldnt take longer than 30 mins), this is the route I would take
