Ug, I'm not holding out too much hope for my IAD-FRA-OSL-TOS-LYR on Friday. Supposedly the north of Norway is directly in its path.

BA 279...LHR-LAX on Wednesday afternoon. Really keeping fingers crossed....only left two extra days worth of cat food for the neighbour looking in on our kitties. Plus I'm at the point where I just want to be home.

been stranded in Japan last year and a flight on Thursday. Great. you have to love Iceland.

Doubt with the scotland flights been cancelled that my flight Amsterdam-Newcastle will be happen on Thursday. Darn, there is a concert I need to go.

Any one has the idea if KLM will need to reimbursement me if they cancel the flight and I would take the Eurostar & train up to Newcastle (its the onboard flight and not return flight.)

BA payed last year for the train back from London - but not sure about that.

And yes, I know its early day, but since I want to be in Newcastle I want to sort out a way to get there if the worst happens

NO!!!

I still have an ongoing court case with KLM regarding an ash cloud claim from last year for taking the train: GLA-LON-BRU-RTM

Heathrow was closed from 15th April until 21st April -with BA forcing them to open the night for longhaul flights.

Other European airports started to operate one or two days earlier.

Question then - do we think the MAN authorities are being a touch optimistic?

Although there are reports that ash from the volcanic eruption in Iceland may reach parts of the UK this week, Manchester Airport is operating normally and we do not expect this to change for the foreseeable future. Only Icelandair has cancelled its service to Reykjavik whilst airspace restrictions are in place around Iceland.

Even if ash were to drift over the UK, unlike 2010, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will not close airspace therefore we do not expect significant disruption to flights.

This is because since April 2010, the aviation industry has learnt enough about the effect of volcanic ash on aircraft to allow the majority of flights to operate safely. The CAA will work with the Met Office to advise airlines and airports precisely where ash is present in the atmosphere and at what density. Airlines will then use this information and test results from the manufacturers of aircraft engines to plan and operate flights safely.

Urghhhhhh - due to fly to ZUR tomorrow evening on the 7.10pm from Heathrow. Contemplating moving to an earlier flight now to make sure I get there... Booked refundable Eurostar tickets back for Friday night in case it all shuts down again but they're not going to help me get out there if this thing descends faster than I expected...

How badly affected are Turboprops compared with Jets?

Aer Arann have updated their website recently to say they should be unaffected, so hoping their flight to Dublin I have is still on for Wednesday - if the wind dies down that is!
