Off thread but it was the closest I could find without opening another thread on Gold vs Silver etc..
What are now the differences between Gold and Silver apart from First class lounge access?
Do Silvers get charged for changing miles redemptions tickets?
Can Silvers book seats when booking? (really can't remember)
Thanks for letting me know because I can't really work out the point in keeping Gold now

* First Class lounge / check-in access
* No charge for changing redemptions
* Ability to spend double miles to 'force' redemption availability
* Higher up the pecking order for upgrades if required
* Access to arrivals lounge when flying long-haul irrespective of class
You also get the GUF2 and possibly GGL if you earn enough TP's.
Those are the main benefits I can think of.
In my view the big mistake BA made was making the mileage bonus for Silver and Gold the same - that removed one of the biggest incentives for making the effort to get to Gold.

Well I must admit to some second thoughts (as I do recall you suggested people like me would). Initially they were driven by rumours of gold perhaps getting more difficult to achieve. More lately assisted by the good news, although waiting for November before finally deciding of course.

I've wanted open doors several times this year
Flying LH because bA was full
Flying SQ del-sin (no oneworld)
Ditto sin-cgk
Flying U2 ams-liv as was too late to get to man via lhr
In none of those cases was Ba or ow an option.

Get yourself a Star Alliance status or fly C/J - problem solved (apart from U2 - PP would probably have done the trick?).

I could have used this a couple of times recently. I was at STR (I think it was STR) in the Star Alliance lounge, right next door to the BA lounge. All they had were giant gherkins.
Then ATH last week on my way home with A3. Actually, not too sure about the ATH lounge - everything sweating in plastic.
Still...
