Is this the bug of British Airways award system?

Apr 11, 2011 business oneway award on AA0031 LAX-HNL. It seems to be a two class flight.

I expect BA requires 35k for this business award (twice of economic class 17.5k), because AA.com only requires 37.5k miles.

However, BA.com will charge 52.5k miles (three times of 17.5k), which is treated as international first class.

This is not a bug. BA treats all First Class as First Class for redemption purposes. There is no exception for FC on a two-cabin aircraft, unless that segment is part of an international Business Class award itinerary, and the international segment is longer than the longest domestic segment. For LAX-HNL in F as a stand-alone award, 52.5K BA miles is correct.

Interesting!
This means PVG-LAX-HNL international business via AA would cost less than LAX-HNL same class alone (50k vs 52.5k).

I was able to find the business award ticket PVG-LAX-HNL on AA.com with 55k, but not BA.com. I feel this is because the overnight layover at LAX. It seems BA.com will have trouble to find award ticket with overnight layover.

I guess if I call, the agent may suggest more direct route PVG-NRT-HNL via JL.
