TP value and upgrades

Hi guys, thanks for great forum.

Current situation is that i have to do some extra flying to achieve the needed TP this year, and have some questions

1. Is there any TP difference between upgraded and non-upgraded flights (eg. ET to CE or WT+ to CW)?

2. Do you normally upgrade after booking on MMB or do you use "Book with cash, upgrade with BA miles" option? Any difference?

3. Iberia flights almost never show on ba.com and the result is that i have to spend a night at LHR, any way outside this? Iberia has flights.

1. You only earn the TPs of the class booked, eg WT+.

2. I dont think there is any difference

3. Nearly every Iberia flight shows up on BA.com. Where are you travelling from/to?

more info on codeshare with Iberia here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...odeshares.html

Thans for reply. Here is an example: trying to get on BA0275 on 24 feb, ba.com suggest to leave from AGP on BA0497 the day before, while Iberia.com has IB211 and IB3164 on the same day.

That's the case if you upgrade with miles, but if you upgrade with cash, you're due the miles and TPs from the upgraded class, though you may have to chase BAEC for them.

have you tried booking via the AA website ?

that website will give you the option of showing all OW flights and letting your build your schedule that way, compared to the BA site which i think only shows flights that operate as BA codeshares ?

If you know that you are going to upgrade, this is the safest option, but it depends what fare you want to MFU and definite you want to be about getting the upgrade.

If it is WT+ to CW, then virtually all fares are eligibile for MFU (except those marked with a big D which is for a discounted sale fares and book into P class, so cannot be MFUed).

However, if it is WT/ET to WT+/CE, then you need to bear in mind that only a flexible/semi-flexible fare classes (B, H and Y - there is one more but I have forgotten it) are eligible for MFU. Using the ba.com option ensure that the upgrade goes through. (But why you'd want to give a straight WT+ or CE ticket would probably be cheaper, I don't know).

For SH, if you want to take your chance on a pro-active upgrade (from ET to CE) in MMB (which my be cheaper), you need to check that I class is available.
