New Year Travel Resolutions
2011 is fast approaching. Of course we all honour the tradition of new year's resolutions...
I have decided to:
What are your resolutions related to travel for 2011?
I have decided to:
- Travel more in Y(+) on day flights. Diversity is the spice of life
- Be less of a slave to my frequent flyer programmes and to travel on more different airlines when possible.
- Avoid LHR in winter
- Start a new RTW by the end of the year to retain Gold despite resolution 2...
- Find a way to meet PUCCI, BBB and SRG...
What are your resolutions related to travel for 2011?

My are:
- To fly a bit less next year (flew every week bar 8 this year)
- Agree with trying different airlines, (only managed 6 different airlines this year and the differences are surprising)
- Finally learn never to choose beef in CW
- Get more consistent in giving feedback to BA, both good and bad (only did one compliments form last year and one complaint - more of both was warranted)
- Get smarter about when I book flights to stop getting stung!
- Book a nice F long weekend somewhere sans kids....

Well on the BA board the only year that should count is the membership year
Once I'm in the new membership year I plan to:
- Aim for BA silver (at the expense of *A - BD's domestic cutbacks meant I was flying BA more this year and couldn't maintain BD*G)
- Fly CWLCY to JFK.
- Explore some of BA's other LCY routes (back in my SkyTeam days I was at LCY multiple times a month, in my *A days I was more LHR focussed).
This year's achievements:
- Flown BA more times than any previous year
- Flown from LGW (and LHR T5) more than any previous year
- Flown Ryanair for the first time (BA 2908 during the strikes)
It is nice to have a choice of three London airports for some of the destinations I've flown this year.

If you still think that's a problem fly bmi and forget cash and cards so you can't buy any
I managed it on a TATL once but only because I was driving at the other end. If there's a reason not to drink then I won't otherwise I find it helps kill the time on flights.

I know that I won't abide by any of resolutions, but am going to give it a try:
1- Pack light and try to take less than 4 suitcases.
2-Fly other airlines but not AA.
3-Plan better and not book at the last minute, avoid paying those exuberant prices.
4-Use up some of those miles and not keep hoarding them.
Am sure there are others.
5-Ohh get to the airport earlier.
6-Visit Antarctica on a Russian Ice breaker

I want to free myself from the shackles of my various FF programs. (I've already forsaken hotel loyalty programs to a large extent so that I can have freedom of choice in all destinations. Plus I don't do any regular business travelling which would get benefits from staying with one brand.)
This will involve eschewing status. (That BA Gold must surely die this year having been on life support for so long. )
It will also mean using up as many miles as possible (while I still get the benefits of increased award inventory and seat selection in the case of BA). And before BA Bank (or one of the others) goes bankrupt or devalues my currency or issues so many miles that redemption becomes an abstract concept rather than a real possibility.
I definitely don't want to travel more! I must be getting old but I did 4 "big" trips this year and it was exhausting. But maybe I'll compromise and do more relaxing trips like beach holidays etc.
