Is BA189 going to be operated by a 767?

Hi all

I booked a WT+ fare to NYC in the recent sale for May next year (for my birthday) and MFU'd to CW - thought I was getting a bargain.

Due to availability and timings I ended up going for BA189 to EWR to get over there, which was shown as being operated by a 777. Would prefer top deck on a 747 but this just wasn't a possibility, so thought I could just about manage to slum it this time.

Earlier today I was looking at my booking and clicked on "more flight information". This indicated that the flight is going to be on a 767?!?! However, when I go into "view or change seat for this flight" the seat map is most definitely for a 777 (2-4-2) and I've booked myself into 10K (shown as confirmed). On a 767 that would put me back in WT+...

Not quite sure what is going on here. A dummy First booking for that date to EWR only gives me BA185 and BA187 as options, which could suggest that the plan is indeed to fly a three class 767 there as BA189 from next year. But if that's the case why is the seat map still showing the layout for a 777?

I'm confused. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Thanks.

In transition probably. Also quite a few threads here about this (but the other way around).

BA189 showing as 767 in May (save Tues and Sat, when 777).

Thanks - looks like 767 it is, then...

Never experienced the original CW so guess it will be an experience, and at least we're guaranteed AVOD. Any idea when the seat map will change?

If by "original CW" you mean the old seats, the last 767 I was on last December had the old CW seats. Not the upgraded ones they have finished upgrading across the fleet now.

Anybody know if any of the 767's have been upgraded with the new CW seats? The seat I had last time was as hard as a plank of wood. Any padding it once had 10 years ago had long since gone. Resorted to folding up the duvet and sitting on that to reduce the feeling of riding on cement.

We had AVOD, which was good, but it didn't work most of the flight....(nothing unusual there on any type of BA aircraft unfortunately.)

Hi randomflyer,

I do not think any of the 767s have the NGCW ( just the original NCW with the dividing fan)

But it's a good 1/2 way house between upper deck and 777. You get full avod and a good crew ratio for a relatively small cabin. I like it!

Plus if you like window seats and facing forward, you can have your cake and eat it

The 767 club cabin is actually very good. Small enough to feel quite cosy and usually with excellent service. Personally I prefer the centre aisle (1F, 2F) where you have no need to step over anyone but the 1A seat is great for privacy or sleeping.

You don't have to step over anyone in 01A.

I much prefer the 767 CW over a 777 even with the old style seats. Much smaller and more personal service I've found.

As others say, 1A and 4K are the best in the house and can be booked by anyone with status - the "special" easy exit seats on the 747/777 seem to be blocked for Golds only.

And you get to turn left when boarding!
