BA777 or 747 in world traveller?

Which aircraft is more comfortable on BA? On UA much prefer the 777 as UA's 747s are still without personal video. Thanks all.

The seats themselves are the same on both aircraft with the exception of the new 777-300's which have new WT & WT+ seats. All the 747's have AVOD, but not all the 777's have.

I think that I would take the 777.

My reasoning is that on the 777 the seats are configured as 3-3-3 whilst on the 747 they are configured as 3-4-3. Accordingly:
* if you take a window seat both aircraft are equivalent
* there is less chance of getting a seat that is not an aisle seat on the 777 (5/9) rather than the 747 (6/10) if there is some fault with your original seat
* if you take an aisle seat on the centre block on the 777 and someone sits in the centre next to you there she will only need to climb over you 50% of the time on average to get to the aisle.

Hi. I have been on both and didnt really take notice of any differences. In general i like 747 more than 777 but it wasnt due to the seats. But not having AVOD would be a reason to go for the 747 flight In my opinion.

Ditto! IME I have found the 747 landings a bit smoother than the 777. YMMV.

747 and grab the pairs of seats at the back of the read Traveller cabin if you can. All 747s have AVOD, if you get a GMIS 777 IFE is poor I'm afraid to say...

Good to see this thread this morning. Flying BA in Y, 747, and relieved to see AVOD in the back of the bus. Grabbed row 51 too. Seems to be the way to go, correct?

It would help if we knew where the OP was flying. To me the seats are no different, but as someone has already said 777 is 333 seating so less chance of having to be stuck in the middle

One thing in favour of the 777 is the fact they are less claustrophobic in Y, due to the higher level of then overhead lockers and as others have stated the 3-3-3 layout with wider aisles.

Without personal video??!! This is a joke, right? I didn't think, there were any mainstream carriers who had the old "big screen" anymore.

747 for me.

LH still has the main screen in 747s too.

I would go 747. After a lot of Jumbo flying I went back onto a 777 a couple of weeks ago and it was particularly noticeable how noisy the GE 777s are compared to the RR 747s and 777s.

I find the 777 smaller and less of a cattle truck than 747 in Y. I think the seat and service are good for Y in both.

ISTR, the 747 runs at a lower "pressurised altitude" than the 777. I therefore find it more comfortable, in general, to breathe on the 747. Or maybe it's just psychological.
