Slightly OT: Car service in Cairo after BA flight

What car service do you recommend in Cairo from airport to city center? Arriving quite late on BA flight and would not like to take a local taxi after a good amount of champagne.

BTW, any update to the rumour in champagne thread BA upgrading champer in F?

I always use the airport car service. Just before you leave the terminal on your right hand side is a small office . They usually have vans outside waiting and are very reliable

only used the hotel car sevices before, but they have always been reliable, and not that expensive either, only advantage of the late arrival is that at leats the Cairo traffic is not too bad

Which hotel are you staying at? Some (e.g. Fairmont Towers Heliopolis) have good value services, others (e.g. Fairmont Nile City) have utterly outrageous charges.

You're right. You've got to be careful. I was once quoted from Sheraton Downtown Cairo to Airport 80 USD!!!!

Ah yes the Cairo taxi drivers....they're bloody hard work to deal with. Even when you think you've agreed a fair price there is always a doubt in your mind that you've been had.

Phil the Flyer our man in CAI will know best. He may even arrange to pick you up on his camel....they'll be a charge of course.

Swanhunter's advice is sound - get your hotel to arrange a car transfer from airport to hotel (for good measure they can escort you through immigration and customs - don't forget you'll need USD15 for a visit visa).

Alternatively Rawas Limousines offer an airport to downtown transfer for approx EGP100 (USD20).

Phil if I agree and come to Cairo - you will collect me in the Limo won't you?

Bring a camel and guess where its hump will get shoved?!

PUCCI - the current going rate in Cairo for a glamorous, young CSD is either 5 camels, 10 sheep or 20 goats. For a clapped-out, old CSD it's 1 goat.

Of course I wouldn't be trading you for even a 1,000 camels - there'd be enough humping between us.

Let me know which BA155 flight you're on and I'll be at CAI T1 with my car and driver at 2340hrs to carry you off to my hareem. I hear your belly-dancing is to die for.

Which just confirms everything I thought about soldiers. Now Policemen are used to standing to attention.

Phil - when I come to Cairo - I do not expect to be stuck in a Harem. All I want is you.

There! Said it!
