An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

I'm a US based flyer and this month have been offered mmb upgrades for $199. Unfortunately I set my gf up for WTP, but then an offer fails to show on my mmb, so i'm hoping to upgrade at check in.

Also food for thought: I asked for an upgrade on an inbound flight to WTP or CW; they were sold out but I was offerred WT -> F for either $1000 or 1500, I forget exactly which. A little too rich for my blood for a 6 hr sleeper flight, but I did briefly consider it.

TIA-LGW ET to CE for £79. Worth mentioning that it's an 80 TP route.

And the same price was offered MAD-LHR well before OLCI opened. I took that as well

How long prior to check-in do these offers normally appear in MMB?

I flew back from Japan a few months back and managed to get a WT+ upgrade for £160 - think I bought it while check-in was open.

Flying to Denver on Sunday and hoping to get a cheap upgrade.

It depends on how the fare was booked.

If directly with BA, usually as soon as you have booked (subject to availability).

If a TA fare, usually at OLCI.

I would rather suggest that they can appear at any time, starting from the moment you book. If you're not offered something straight away, an offer may be made at a later stage. Of course, you do have to go into MMB yourself to see whether or not there is an offer for your flight.

For historical reasons, I have a bundle of unredeemed Thomas Cook vouchers. I'm thinking of using them for a package tour (which would be the first for us for many years).

Does anybody know:
  • what booking code such flights are booked into if flying BA (presumably the lowest)?
  • whether there would be any opportunity whatsoever for a UuA?

Thanks.

Has anyone ever experienced a MMB/WTP POUG for the LHR-LAX-LHR route? Travelling in a weeks time and the reward availability checker always seems to have availability open up for the 2-3 days from the current date. I know the two aren't likely related but thought it might give an indicator??? It's WT+ to CW I'd be interested in.........

I was offered an upgrade to CE for EUR70 AMS-LHR, but then told I couldn't have it as there was not enough food on board.

I asked about a CW -> F upgrade this evening for BA27 LHR-HKG, but despite showing F7 A7 on EF, there're no specials available. Shame!

Try in the lounge - sometimes I've been told no at check-in, only to be able to get one there

Thanks darthlemsip, I did ask again in the lounge but sadly got the same reply. Maybe I'll ask the CSD for one last try in a couple of hours....
I've never been turned down when asking before, wonder if it's because I'm no longer a OW Sapphire (I'll be BA Silver once I land though!)
