An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

Yes that could have been me this evening although after several "generous" G&Ts in Alcùdia earlier I have gone off the idea of drinking any more.

I know! What am I saying?

Hard to say. A POUG may be offered at any time up to and including OLCI, but it's all subject to availability and if you are a serial POUGer, then you may not be offered one at all.

I strongly suspect the answer is no.

I'm such a lush.
A super flight in Y, on a super Embraer E190 (my favourite aircraft) and FIVE (count 'em) miniatures of G&T. Hehe. Hic.

Have you checked if there is I class availability for the flight? POUGs usually only appear where there are plenty of seats still left to be sold.

Otherwise, if you want to travel in Club, pay the fare...don't leave yourself to the mercy of a revenue algorithm.

POUGs are there for people who didn't intend to travel in Club to go "Ooh! What's this?" *click* - that's how my first Club flight happened.

Wasn't quite that simple, for me at least.

I had the upgrade button still available (albeit with the star and not giving a special offer) on the December departure right up until the end of last week.

However, when I booked the April/May flights, the icon had never been shown at all for those flights on the phone (despite them having "discounted" fares available).

There was another upgrade at the end of last week and after that it completely disappeared even for the December booking.

Really not sure why it happened that way. But, for sure it's totally gone now.

This is of course true. If you have some means to check the individual ticket classes remaining (KVS for example) this can give a good indicator.

But, there are (at least in my exerience) times they are more likely to appear. I think at certain times in the cycle leading up to take-off they are releasing more, as the chance of them being bought full price diminishes.

The below is just from my limited experience. They can and do appear at any time (due to expansion of club rows, or people cancelling tickets). These are the times I've often seen the POUG appear. Enough for me to see it as a bit of a pattern. It can happen at any time of the day (but usually some time in the morning).

4 weeks before departure.
2 weeks before departure.
1 week before departure.
3 days before departure (the same day blocked seats are released, but usually not at the same time).
on the day of departure itself.

Take a note of the last one. It's only really useful if you have status enough to pre-book seats (allowing you to delay actual check in until the day itself). But very very often on the LHR-MUC-LHR route I saw this happen on the day of departure.

More weird pricing... Have not been shown any POUGs for my HAM trip since I booked it weeks ago. Today, I just checked in for the outbound, and suddenly, a POUG appeared for the return inbound.

£80.

Never seen that pricing before! It's often £69, sometimes £54 or £56 (I forget), but never seen £80 before!

I guess they really are letting a machine randomise all this... Regardless, not POUG'ing anything until Jan 8th 2015 anyway.

Also just wanted to point out that I can't remember the last time I saw in a POUG in the iOS app... The above mentioned one only appears in MMB on their website, not in the app. Very odd.

So if you're looking for POUG's - do check at ba.com and don't solely rely on the app any more.

MUC has gone up. I was offered it online yesterday for £110. Previously it's been only £79.

LHR-VIE-LHR now pricing at £130 each way for a POUG upgrade for early January departure, always used to be £89 for as long back as I can remember.

So given so much has been enhanced away in CE, particularly the extra legroom it it a resounding NO at these prices BA!! Wouldn't be so bad if it was a marginal increase of say £5 but this is just short of a 50% increase!

Not a chance at these prices!

I tend to agree. The upcoming OTP flight finally re-opened for "discounted" upgrade. £185. Now, there's two of us going so the most I would pay is maybe £99 each in this case. If it was just me, £129 (which is was at for a while). But £185, I can't justify that to myself really.

Am just wondering....does anyone think there is a link between the POUG price quoted and the original Y ticket price?

For example, two posts ago I mentioned that LHR-VIE-LHR was coming in at £130 each way when it always used to be £89 for as long as I can remember. But I normally am paying about £300 return for the base ticket in Y but for my upcoming early January flight I have paid about £210 return.

So wondering if there has started to be some linkage, ie, the price this time at £130 is because my original Y ticket was cheaper than normal?
