An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

This was a POUG offered in MMB at T-48. I've seen them offered several times on the kids' bookings on MAN-LHR and on to LAS, BKK and JFK.

Never of course on any booking that connects MAN to short-haul ... although we can dream

Straight from the BA Calculator (and matches my last trip there in CE):
Avios / Tier Points
1385 / 40

I think HEL is the only 80 TP flight in CE in that part of northern Europe?

That's my understanding, yup. I just got a great deal in ET through the sale though.

£115 return for 2 people which includes the discounted price by using Avios to reduce the cost. We'll earn most of the 6k Avios spent to reduce the cost when we fly. Very decent value!

I have a CW flight from LHR to YYZ on Sat pm - what would be the best plan of attack to upgrade? Points? Cash at the airport, if so how much?
Many thanks

I've seen almost no last minute UUA availability in First for YYZ in the last few months. That's probably due to the 787 being used - so instead of 3 chances of first - there's only 2 reducing capacity on the 'peak' days and only one chance on days like a Saturday.

I've also found that the flights are almost always oversold at the back - and Saturday appears (from my untrained eye) to be no exception with the 99 reporting as Y9/B6/H2.

So you can ask about an AUP - expect it to be in the region of £500 or so if they offer it.

That was LHR-SVG out, SVG-LHR in, i.e. to upgrade both legs cost me £128. It's a 40TP route in CE.

But keep in mind that could be sold as:

6 first tickets or 6 club tickets moved forward into First or 6 WTP tickets moving 6 forward to club moving 6 forward to first or 6 WT tickets pushing everyone forward.

Once the back is oversold they'll be looking to no give up any seats for 'free' as such unless they have to (Op-ups). So you might well get an AUP if you get there early enough.
