An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

Thanks That was my rough understanding too. On my way to IAD - not the longest route in the world.

So parents are off to Oman. They are in Y but have online offer for WT+ for £179. Agent is saying they cant then upgrade to J as its a special offer. There is availability and I thought they could do it reading other threads. Can anyone please advise ASAP as flight is very soon.

Many Thanks B

Upgrades are only possible once (in other words, one cabin). If they are in Y, they can use the POUG to upgrade to WT+, but will then have an unupgradeable ticket.

Not strictly speaking, no.

A POUG will book into P (someone correct me please if I'm wrong) which is the avios redemption fare bucket. As such, it is not upgradeable any longer. You should also check what the new change/cancellation restrictions will be, as they might change too...

W, E and T (the revenue fare buckets for WT+) are all upgradeable.

Thanks for posting the prices you've seen for IAH upgrades. ^ I'd add a note of caution, however. There is "frequently" or "often" availability for one or more of the above upgrade options, certainly, maybe even "usually" (I can't be sure as I only have 3-5 data points a year), but not "always".

Both in the last few days in MMB: LGW-FCO for £79, and AMS-LGW for €59.

LGW-FCO popped up 2 weeks before departure, AMS-LGW has been on there since booking - except during the sale.

Last night I upgraded LHR->JNB : Y (last minute Avios redemption) to W : £209
As per previous comments - no option to upgrade any further than that.

Strangely the boarding pass stated M->W upgrade. As M is not a redemption bucket, could I be in for undeserved TPs/Avios from this I wonder....

To clarify, my flight isn't for another 10 days or so, so I don't think it's classed as a POUG. I upgraded my discounted economy ticket to a wtp for 200 pounds. I the used a iOS to upgrade to business.

I didn't get the undeserved TPs, but that would only have been an unexpected bonus anyway - I was still happy with the price of the upgrade.

Smile LHR - SOF Bargain ET - CE Upgrade

I'm a recent BA Bronze, first post here!

Bought a super cheap (must have been lowest of the low restricted economy, 20 TP each way) ET LHR - SOF Return (3hr + flight time each way) back in January (~£200 return).

Early Feb = SOF - LHR, ET-CE upgrade offered (through iPhone app) for £89. Took advantage of this, bumped up to 20 TP LHR - SOF, 80 TP SOF - LHR.

At that time, LHR - SOF ET-CE Upgrade at £221, so ignored offer.

Yesterday, LHR - SOF ET-CE Upgrade dropped to £89! So a full CE Return, 160 TP = Happy Man

Means I may actually achieve Silver later this year! Hoorah!

Welcome to FT DrBenO, enjoy your stay.

Always nice when things like that happen - bet it was significantly cheaper than buying CE at the time of booking!

Thanks darthlemsip, about £200 less than paying for CE at the time!
