An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

LGW-CUN return from WT to WT+ £300 i.e. £150 each way.

I phoned up back in December for this upgrade for flights in May. I can't get MMB upgrades online due to flying from GLA.

What about tickets booked with BA by telephone?

No offer appearing for LHR-BOS-LHR-CDG (booked as a return)…

Why is BA averse to offering paid upgrades for pax with domestic connections?

I doubt they are averse - I believe it is because their systems are held together by string and powered by mice caught in the basement of T5 is the main reason that they are unable...

Thanks for that.. still no POUG for Fridays flight to Nice. Its a cash booking. My return Friday afternoon was a RFS to London then on to Newcastle and I decided to upgrade that by making new booking and cancelling the other.. so quite happy to get my 4500 avios back and lose the £15 .. would be nice to get a POUG for Friday morning's flight.

Do they offer the upgrades in the lounge or should I ask at the check in desk if not offered at OLCI ?

I would ask at check-in, or maybe the BA ticket desk. I only upgraded in the lounge as I was already airside, having connected from a separate booking. I had to ask in the lounge - I wasn't offered the upgrade immediately. And someone had to come through from landside to actually re-issue the ticket.

Strange that MMB is not showing an upgrade for your flight - availability is still I9. Is your ticket a straight LGW-NCE or is there a domestic leg involved? If the latter then MMB never seems to show upgrades due to limitations in BA's systems.

I still have a 100% upgrade record on this route, most recently on Feb 20.

Just had a look at my flight BRU-LHR tomorrow, and was about to use OLCI. Noticed a really small box in the corner in the corner saying "Upgrade for €69 per pax". No "Special offer" notification of anything as I usually get.

Anyway, booked it and now I have all the TPs I need for Gold. ^

Thanks again.. I will see what happens at OLCI but yes it is a cash LGW-NCE booking the return sector is ZRH-LHR in May .. wonder if that makes any difference... shouldn't do I guess. To be honest, it would only get me an extra 323 Avios and 30 TPS so not overly fussed especially if ET flight is not busy on way out.

Travelling hand luggage only so wasn't intending to visit the check in desk but will ask.. might need one of those cabin bags accepted stickers.

Ha! Yeah I need to look at that anyway; not sure how topical my Blockbuster card is these days.

How long will it take to update my profile (taking into account I need to wait for some AY flights to post as well)? Is it worth giving them a call when I'm back to see if they'll do it manually? Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but I'm off to the US on the 9th March and wouldn't mind having my account showing me as Gold in case I need to take some AA domestics.

Hi,

For various technical reasons (I'm actually blind and use speech on the computer) I can't search this thread.

Does anyone have experience in upgrade costs from WT+ to CW from Sydney to LHR and return?

Our flight is in May and haven't had any special upgrade offer. There is the upgrade link in MMB but that returns a cost of $34000 for 2 tickets which is a bit crazy!

Thanks,
Dale.

Dale, a belated welcome to you on this forum, it's great you are here, and please post away. Don't worry about the search engine, even geeks like me find it awful, you are not missing much. Google works better.

From what I've seen, if offered, it won't be less that £450 and could be higher (the highest I've heard of is £900). The MMB upgrade cost is frequently incorrect, it may be worth ringing someone to discuss it.

Just so you know, there is at least one other traveller here in a similar position, his name is blindy. I hope the Private Message button works for you should you wish to compare notes.
