An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

And I normally get offered POUGs immediately after booking on this route, but that didn't happen when I made a new booking yesterday.

If anything, this should teach me to grab POUGs quickly.
Yes, I have a LGW-SZG coming up in Jan; POUG was on offer for weeks and weeks, just noticed it's gone....

I'm not sure if paid airport upgrades belong in this thread, however Ł449 from J-F (LHR-JNB)

Ł449 to upgrade from WTP to CW on Friday's flight from LHR-JED. Very peaceful in CW despite an otherwise full flight.

Is it just me, or is Ł449 quite a lot for an upgrade from WTP-CW? The standard price for POUG from Y-J on the EK A380 LHR-DXB is Ł250, and I've had those offers a few times. AA TATL flights are usually offered for the Ł250 mark, as well.

A quick look would suggest a standard CW fare on this route is Ł2k. The WTP fares are showing at Ł850 (though I don't know if they are part of the current sale and would usually cost more). Assuming both those prices are "normal", the POUG fare only seems to be Ł150 per leg less than the difference in fare?

Not knocking it, if it suits you at that price then go for it. Just seems that BA seem to have their prices for POUG set quite a bit higher than other airlines.

I agree, far too much IMO.

I completely agree with you and I'm glad that I am not the only person who feels this way! Took the "offer" this time as I recently had surgery so the extra comfort was helpful.

Ł449 is quite steep for the fairly short flight to Jeddah on the B767. Considering what I paid for WTP (~Ł900 return) they pretty much charged me slightly less than 1/2 of the normal CW return fare (Ł2000) so this can hardly be called an "offer". Jeddah and Riyadh are almost never on sale.

Having posted earlier about the sudden disappearance of MMB POUGs on upcoming LGW-NCE bookings I thought I'd check the price for normal upgrades with cash. Strangely there was a difference between the price shown on the BA iPhone App and that on ba.com. The former price was a stonking Ł790, ten times the previously available POUG price. ba.com quoted Ł515. Both prices are more than the cost of buying a new one-way ticket, quoted at Ł499 for a flexible fare in D class.

Apart from the upgrade prices being clearly unattractive, I wonder why there should be a difference between the BA App and ba.com.

And I'm still puzzled by the sudden withdrawal of POUGs on this routing, which used to be so reliable, and with I9 showing for three upcoming bookings.

Thanks Darthlemsip - I wondered whether the sale might have something to do with it. Does anyone know if POUGs are still available at the airport during sales?

I thought they don't look at the subclass of your ticket for these upgrades as I ask the agent before I checkin whether my flight is available and how much, she gave me the price and the checked me in
