I just manually chased bonus points for a Holiday Inn Express stay. The MR call centre said they didn't believe accommodation counted as travel, but they would check with the back office and get back to me in 48 hours.

I wonder what the American Express Travel Service does with all the people they send places if it isn't accommodating them?

Accommodation should count - see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/13860874-post220.html

Accommodation definitely counts IME; I too had to chase double points on a couple of hotel stays and these were added manually last week.

I seem to have shared all the problems that have been identified in the previous posts with chasing double points.

I also had to chase car hire double points, after initially being informed, using the secure message system, that car hire did not qualify!

I wish they would give a definitive list of which companies are included. Double points have been swiftly corrected after contact, but no 20000 MR points for the £500.00 point spend yet, which I am now chasing up.

On the whole I am tired of constant phone calls and messages to them, but now the double points are posting automatically, I shall stick with the card, especially as I now have 5 weeks in America where the spending should accrue double points, I hope!

I don't understand why Tesco petrol accrues triple points though.

The 20k MR offer expires on 7 June. If I apply today I assume the spend doesn't have to be racked up by then?

From the T&C's:

"For the Gold Card, the 20,000 Membership Rewards bonus points will be awarded onto your account once you have been approved and you have spent £500 within the first 3 months of Cardmembership. Please note that it can take up to one month for bonus points to be awarded to your account. Valid until midnight on 7 June 2010."

So no - you've got three months from being accepted.

I'm just back from the states, and all purchases are showing as double points from the

"Outbound spend bonus"

This seems to work for anything bought elsewhere - an internet software purchase from Germany accrued the same bonus.

I have watched this post with interest over the last few weeks.
I am currently thinking of taking up this offer for bith myself and my other half therefore netting 40,000 miles ( not bad) but the only thing I can think of that is putting me off is the the OH's accout is registered in Spain.
Is she able to transfer the MR point to BAEC even though her account outside the UK.

I was sent the platinum application last week with a waiver of the fee

I have read a lot of this thread of the weeks and as far as I am aware this question has not come up.
I would be grateful if you the knowledgable people on this board could answer this

Anyone received Bonus Points for purchases from Tesco Direct (wine, dongles etc)?

Anyone think that they should receive Bonus Points for these purchases?

Yes for wine - but they went through as part of a manual mass update. Don't know if they will double up now the automatic bonuses are posting.

Aren't double MR points on all spend? I'm confused as to why there are posts about specific retailers? In the first year all purchases earn double MR points, it's just next year some are double?

Its double points on grocery & fuel only. The problems seem to arise with the difference of opinion on what we & Amex consider groceries. There have been instances where triple points have been awarded, I was lucky myself, but I think we can put that down to all the glitches with the setup.

Personally, I'm just using it for supermarket spend and fuel, of which everything is getting 2x. Everything else is going on my BA Amex with it's 1.5x.

To clarify it's:
  • double points on travel spend (forever)
  • double points on fuel & grocery (first year only)
  • single points on everything else

Well that's not my understanding of the phrase
Spend just like normal on the things you buy every day like groceries and petrol

The terms are more specific:

5. You will accrue Points in addition to this for certain transactions at the rate of 1 Point for virtually every full pound charged per transaction at major supermarkets and petrol stations for your first year of cardmembership.

(note that's 1 additional point, on top of the normal 1 point)
