Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)
Northern UK airspace is closed, as the iPhone Plane Finder app elegantly demonstrates. There is nothing up there north of Luton to Cardiff.

Can anyone with any knowledge of such events speculate as to the timescale. I udnerstand that it will be around for days, but am I right in thinking that it will start to disperse and get thinner, so posing less of a risk? Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to whether services ex-UK to Portugal tomorrow evening will be affected? What I mean is -is the ash expected to drift over France/Spain or across Netherlands and Eastern Europe? Or both? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
And for anyone travelling in the next few days -good luck!

My flight back to LHR from Narita tomorrow morning got cancelled aswell.
Any advice what to do or what BA has to offer me? They told me she could cancell my flight and rebook me on another date, but no word if BA would pay for a hotel or so.
Or should I wait and just show up at the airport tomorow?

For anyone with past experience:
BA.com doesn't show my flight (at 5pm today from LHR) as being cancelled yet. Is there any chance whatsoever that the cloud might shift and it may actually end up going? Or is it a case that once ATC have decided airports are closed for the rest of the day, there's no going back.
If there was a slim chance, I might take the train down South just in case.

I understand that BASSA have already contacted some Icelandic consultants with a view to understanding if they can use this approach in future to ground BA...

At least this is not just over-reaction. I suppose that this is all the airlines wanted but at least BA cannot be blamed for volcanos in Iceland?
