If changing into pyjamas, there's also room for all your clothing, which I wouldn't necessarily count on in the other seats' closets.

I've been in 1A and 2A and I personally would pick 1A whenever available.

Just being nosey. Why do you want to sit in 1A on a 777?

I normally see it 72 hours before departure, however it seems pot luck whether you can reserve the seat or whether the web site will just error right up to departure....

Also bear in mind it may already have been pre assigned to a Status Card holder, so it may not become available at all

Thanks. Unsatiated nosiness remains.

Why do you think it will be a nice surprise for your friend?

Because for the vast majority of people who've never even considered the notion that there may be 'good' and 'bad' seats in F, there's a certain cachet in bagging 1A.

I certainly was tickled the first time I bagged 1A in a premium cabin.

And Mr W has decided he'd like it on our next trip... since he's not gold, I've had to take it on the understanding we'll trade on board and I can have 'his' 2A

What is the cause of the cachet exactly?

I'd say so, gives feeling of a more spacious cabin, not facing a bulkhead and slighty less noise intrusion from the front and back galleys.
