As you have never flown BA before why not consider taking WT out and WTP return. You can then experience WTP without having to pay for it both ways and enjoying the resulting savings.

Once you have tried it you can then judge whether or not it was worth it, and so gauge the benefits of booking WTP over WT in the future.

Not aimed at the OP I promise, but always amazes me how many times we can debate the very same subject over and over again, and 4 pages of it!

Agree - but better safe than sorry and having "updated" passenger comments always interesting and sometimes new "ideas" come forward.

I have to say that IF you are lucky enough to travel on a 747 hi J and you can secure 28 b or 28 j in WT + then 600$ + TP is DEFINATELY worth it - great seats

Was on a three class 777 on Friday in J and didn't particularly enjoy it - strange as it is I almost prefer WT + 28 j on a 747

OT, but you might want to amend your "# of posts to show per page" setting from the default to 40 in My Flyertalk > Edit Options. Makes the FT experience much easier

Good tip Shuttle-Bored, thanks! ^

4.5 years and 5,555 posts (sorry 5,556 now...) since I joined FT, and never thought of that myself...

thanks everyone for the reply. i have some unexpected...but yet good news.

i was talking to my brother last night ( who flies on a regular basis) about the my indecisiveness and he goes " just think on it and don't do anything now and we will talk tomorrow"

so i took his advice and went to bed. i talked to him about an hour ago... apparently he did some scouting on his own... and he is springing for me to fly business class... but its on AA. they got some kinda of special going on that will allow me to fly business class on my departure for around the same costs as WT+ ticket. He told me i would have to fly economy for the return but he is willing to spring for my complete ticket... UMMMM YEAH i jump at that lol... i aint crazy...

flying business class on any airline never crossed my mind but hey if he willing to treat his sister than who am i to deny him that honor lol. i did have my heart set on BA since i have heard such great things about them... but i know i will have other flights with them since i am planning on taking in some sights during my time in Finland. If this is a sign of things to come then my semester in Finland is gonna rock lol (sorry a little excited that my first flight in over 10 yrs will be in business class lol)

anyway again thanks for all the opinions... they will be of great help in the future.

If the OP has two bags to check, then it does affect the calculation.

In WT the 2nd bag will cost £32/$48, where in WT+ the second bag is free.

when i was looking at the prices even with a second bag WT still would had been much cheaper.

it was around 1100 for me to fly with WT and 1770 for me to fly WT+ so even with the second bag i would only spend 1150 or so by flying WT

Good points bernardd, but unlike you, I'm not a business owner, I'm a freelance specialist in I.T., and I hate business travel having done it for 30 years. There is no way I could cross the Atlantic in Economy and be able to perform adequately at a client meeting the next morning. The fee I charge my clients includes the cost of Club World travel. Surprisingly, nobody has ever declined to engage me based on my fee. However I'm talking about huge corporations with sizeable budgets to outsource work to people like me, so probably not comparable to your situation.
I admire your self restraint in travelling Coach for the greater benefit of your company.

I tried WTP for the first time yesterday, via a strange and slightly frustrating set of circumstances.

Flying out to DME and booked in 1K on the 767. Another colleague travelling on a different PNR was in 4K, and at OLCI, the only seats we could find together were in row 12.

When we board, it's a LH configured 767 (the one that used to do the MAN - JFK runs) and we'd swapped old style NCW flat beds for WTP seats. Grrr.

However, the difference in space and comfort between the standard economy seat and WTP is well worth while IMHO.

I'm about 6 foot tall and in economy, my knees are hard against the back of the deat in front, whilst in WTP, the extra legroom allowed my to sit back and cross my legs with space to spare.

Despite the Grrr factor of having missed out on a NCW seat, the WTP was miles better than standard WT for a 4 hour flight and would be perfectly acceptable for a longer journey.

Thanks to FT, I've never flown worse than business in Long Haul since 2004, but I'd consider WTP as a viable alternative, certainly for transatlantic flights.

That's a fair comment. For me that sorts out what is hugely lacking in WT+ - privacy. Other than that, I find the seat terrible to sleep in unless I'm completely exhausted, in which case I could probably fall asleep standing up anyway.

Returning to the WT seat, I find I brush elbows with the next passenger and sleep is very hard to come by so WT+ is definitely better in both respects.

You could buy a car, or 20 computers or employ an engineer for more than a month AND take those four expensive round trips a year between Texas and the UK - if you are prepared to reduce your personal income by $12-15k (before tax). Personally, I think that business class is just about worth it (though it is a close call), so I do exactly that.
