Are you sure you get AA first when Booking Club Lhr - Hawai ?.( on Lax - Hawai section ) In the past I have asked about US two Class Flights and have been advised that as the cabin is called First class, It is 3 X base milage .

Aloha!

Did this on BA Miles LAX-HNL-SYD earlier in the year (total 75,000 BA Miles in Business with Honolulu weekend stopover, continuing on QF 747-300 of ancient stock).

The AA LAX-HNL two class aircraft is indeed "First" up front but very much like a Business Class service IMHO. It had, however, recently been reconfigured, according to AA. More of an "enhancement" I think.

As you will be aware AA Domestic First is a joke, except on their 777s, when compared to what European Airlines offer even in Club Europe for instance, and the Hawaii service is meant to be a hybrid between the international and the domestic service.

No seat back TVs, food average, flight attendants prehistoric, blue seats with leather patches, and I think less room throughout the plane (see 757 reference above). No amenity kit, either.

Often overbooked towards the end of the week, too.

You are right that FIRST is usually 3x base mileage, but there has been a special offer on this route for a while now, so maybe you should see if that's still on?

Hawaii is a great destination, have a great time!

In fairness, apudme, AA's first class product is far superior to BA's club europe with one exception (the lack of meal service on shorter flights). The leg room is 40 inches at least (even on the 757s) and the seats are much wider than BA's too. AA domestic doesn't have seat-back tvs or amenity kits, but then again I'm pretty sure BA club europe doesn't either!

Recently AA has reconfigured its "Hawaiian config" 767-300s. They're now standardized with the rest of the 763 fleet with a huge 60 inches of pitch in first class. With the exception of a few positioning flights, 777s don't fly domestic routes. However you will find 3-class 767-200s on premium transcontinental routes (e.g. LAX-JFK). These have 50 inches of pitch in business class.

I don't have personal experience of redeeming miles on BA post-July, but it's my understanding from other posters here that you only pay 2x mileage for domestic first class flights, except for premium transcons where a business cabin is also offered.

What are the stopover rules going to NHL from London. If I booked award travel via say LAX or SFO, how long would I be able to spend in LA or SF on the way out and back?

As long as you like , subject to award availability.
