Seating Codes
Deat friends,
I am quite new to this forum, so not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this question. Can anyone please tell me what all the seating codes are and what the differences are, for example, J class, M class, Y class etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but for example you could have four or five different codes for economy but different tarrifs. Why is this LDG [This message has been edited by Lan Ding Gere (edited 10-14-2002).] |
Hello Lang,
Lets see if we can help you on this question. You are correct in your obervations that you can have many diiferent seating codes for the same cabin class. These are down to the cost of the ticket and the flezbility that you get with dates and refunds. Below are some examples. First Class: F- Full fare, fully flexable and transferabel between airlines on the same route. A- Discounted first class, fully flex but only on BA Biz class: J- Full fare, flex, refund, multi airlines D- Felx, refundable before departure? I- Cheap(ish) non flexi or redundable Economy: Y- Full fare, flexl refund, mutli airlines M,K and others cheaper with restrictions. I am sure ScottC or somebosy else with vast knowledge will add to this or correct me soon..... |
A Quick guide:
Concorde: R A G I First: F A Club World: J D Club Europe: C D World Traveller Plus: W T World/Euro Traveller: Y B Domestic: C Y D Not all these fares earn points |
Thanks guys.
I think that has cleared things up. When booking, can I stipulate which tarrif I want to book in depending on availability ? LDG |

And the codes can mean different things in different markets.
Most economy codes earn 25% miles and no tier points in the UK, but most get 100% credit as well as tier points in the rest of Europe. D can mean completely refundable in some markets, and completely non-refundable in other markets Guess which country gets the short straw. |
Obviously these ones are for BA.
The offical guideline booking class codes are: A First Class Discounted B Economy/Coach Discounted C Business Class D Business Class Discounted E Shuttle Service (No reservation allowed) or Economy/Coach Discounted F First Class G Conditional Reservation H Economy/Coach Discounted J Business Class Premium K Economy/Coach Discounted L Economy/Coach Discounted M Economy/Coach Discounted N Economy/Coach Discounted P First Class Premium Q Economy/Coach Discounted R Supersonic S Economy/Coach T Economy/Coach Discounted U Shuttle Service (No res. needed/Seat guaranteed) V Economy/Coach Discounted W Economy/Coach Premium Y Economy/Coach Z Business Class Discounted For example both Virgin and BA use W Class for their Premium Economy Products (WT+ in BA's case); however discounted Premium is K Class on Virgin but T Class on BA. This information is from http://www.airodyssey.net/reference/othcodes.html Take a look at the site itself, http://www.airodyssey.net as it contains lots of useful informatiom on codes, aircrafts and has a good multimedia library too.
