What difference does it make?

There might already be a thread somewhere, but could not find it:

I am BA Gold. As I always fly F except in Europe, I get usually good service and automatically have access to lounges. Up till now, except for the luggage tag and the occasional present, I still have not found any advantage to being Gold. So except for ego purpose, what are the real advantages of being Gold Member? Have I been missing anything?

Thank you for whatever answer.

Extra "coach"/"economy" award availabilty. I don't know if you are missing it or not, but that is the one key difference I have noted. Everything else (besides domestic US Flagship Lounge/Admirals Club access in the places where those are to be had) has not seemed visible to me. BA's summer 2003 devaluation makes BA miles worth far less.

Open doors lounge access, waitlist priority, extra help during "situations" like cancellations etc...

It doesn't make that much difference, but if you fly enough you earn it anyway, I wouldn't go out of my way to keep Gold.

You also receive a Gold tier bonus for BA Miles of 50%.

Perhaps not of value to you, but the 2500 and 3500 tier points upgrade vouchers are a very nice benefit for me.

I would PAY for Gold if I could. I fly WT and WT+. I was comped Gold one year. Going to the head of the line, getting great seat assignments, and lounge access were the best features. And we got op upgrades most of the time (80%+) whenever flights were full (not many golds fly WT or WT+ so you get prioritized and called first).

Basically, Gold is a way to make WT and WT+ flights tolerable, maybe even delightful. As a J or F flyer, Gold wouldn't be of much value to me, except maybe to earn more mileage multiples.
