BA2846 LGW - FAO delayed by almost 3 hours

We were due to land at19.40 and the app is currently saying 22.30. We’re on a BA holiday booking and are picking up a car from Avis then driving for an hour to an Airbnb. As Avis closes at 22.00 I’m just wondering if we should be booking a hotel in Faro. Anyone know the reason for the delay?

If I were you I’d be using the BA contact number emailed to you either today or yesterday and asking them, if a hotel is required they will book and pay for it for you.

Thank you. I’ve been trying to call the BA holiday duty officer on +44 20 8707 4463 but the number is permanently engaged.

That’s the standard 24hr contact number, I’ve always received a mobile number to call if any problems during the holiday. Did you not get that?

Alternatively try the email [email protected] and ask for an urgent call back.

Thank you - will give it a go.

After my flight from PMI was late last week I’ve been checking FR in the evenings over the last days and hefty delays seem to be the norm for the evening inbounds for both BA and U2.

ATC delays potentially?

You can phone Avis Faro on +351 289-810 120.

Often locations will stay open for late arrivals, but I would phone ahead and let them know.

Thank you. They’ve arranged for us to pick up the keys from the self service kiosk.

It looks like we’ll now arrive over 3 hours late, so at least EU261 compensation will kick in.

Might kick in, depending on the reason for the delay.

The aircraft was late arriving from Dalaman due to technical problems. We’re now delayed a further 50 minutes due to ATC problems at Faro. I guess the ATC aspect won’t count?

Open to debate. You could argue that if BA had a spare aircraft and you left on time, the ATC restriction would not whatever it is now.

As the ATC delay (ATZ) is only 18 mins due to your take off slot or CTOT of 2104BST, there is already well in excess of 3 hours for other reasons, predominately the late running of the earlier services and then passenger handling issues. On the previous sectors there were issues with paperwork and briefing facilities.
