AA Seat Selection

Wasn't sure whether to post this on the BA or AA forums, but here goes! We're thinking of having a few days in NYC and I'm trying to weigh up the Economy v Business Class fares and products. As far as I can see, choosing BA metal seems to run the risk of a 747 that has not been refurbished so I thought I might take the opportunity of trying AA.

With my BAEC Silver, does anyone know whether I would be able to select the AA Economy 'Main Cabin Extra' seat free of charge? It seems that the equivalent AA Platinum passenger can, but I think some schemes have odd rules when it comes to seat selection.

I've searched and can't find anything conclusive. Any first hand experience would be appreciated.

Yes - you will.
I have done exactly that as a BAEC Silver on an upcoming trip I have in Y on AA.

Excellent. Thank you so much for the quick feedback.

Yes you can. It is worth checking the seat map before booking though to see what is currently available. You can do this by clicking 'seats' in the flight search results on AA.com.

I'd also like to chime in and say that you can do just that. I just flew on AA (and actually had a mostly great experience) on MCE due to OneWorld Sapphire.

Also, just as a note, if the AA system doesn't recognise your Sapphire/Emerald status for whatever reason (esp. if reservation was made before the status was upgraded), then it is very helpful to give them a call, and they'll sort it out.
