Good point; wine does come in other colours than red :)

Some good white Burgundy occasionally still sneaks out in GF, there was an extremely nice and decidedly non-budget Corton-Charlemagne a few months ago.

I remember finding a 98 Lynch-Bages back in 2014 in Galleries First. Admittedly, there was only 1 bottle and it was out at 8am in the morning. Embarrassed to admit that I couldn't resist a glass, despite being very much in work mode. Back to the CCR, I was told that the missing red Bordeaux was just a temporary blip. Time will tell...

youd be lucky to get echo de lynch bages now, had a bottle of the 09 the other week - very nice!

To clarify the Capetown matter refers to SEVERE shortage of water of any sort has been rationed probably more than petrol ...they have declared several ZERO WATER DAYS.

Like " let them shower with wine as water is severely restricted" ?

How is that relevant to the wine selection in an airline lounge in London?

Sadly this is probably a positive given the combination of high Bordeaux (and especially Burgundy) prices and a declining BA food & beverage budget. There is better wine to be found elsewhere in the old world (Spain & Portugal & South Africa) and other parts of the globe to better fit BAs limited budget.

Fixed it for you.

Just wondering how this "occasionality" happens. Does someone nip down to a cellar, grab a bottle - any bottle - to replenish stocks upstairs?
Or is there some kind of plan....

I was in the CCR on Tuesday and indeed there was no Bordeaux. I was offered a glass of the Italian red and it was over ripe, cooked, alcoholic swill that had a touch of TCA to it. So not a lot going for it!

Come on BA you really are starting to hit the bottom. Service on the BA33 to KUL was not up to much either.

The burgundy went awol years ago.

all part of the ‘premium’ experience you know. Casa plonko instead nowadays.

sure it saves a few ££ but all the little bits add up to my custom taken elsewhere where I can now.

At CCR there is a lament for lack of claret while so many other beverages are available. In Capetown the shortage of water is devastating. Think how will you live wwith just a few gallons of water per day ?

fascinating but irrelevant. This whole BS about excusing cr-ppy service and product as a first world problem is tiring and irrelevant.

Last I checked the CCR was in London and there are nt any water issues there.

There is a major de premiuming of the product while fares are going up not down. And last I checked BA does not set product based on water supplies in a corrupt country 11 hours flying time away...

Could we perhaps tone down some of the language in this thread? One of the things I like about FT is that it's somewhere that should be a collegiate and friendly space, within a mass of needless online confrontation.

And as my only useful contribution to this thread, being one of the last remnants of the Temperance Movement, I give you without comment today's CCR and GF wines. The Henriot / LPGS fizz + rosé is on top.

The Puligny is pretty good; had a few glasses the other day. Everything else currently available in the CCR is "meh" in my view (not particularly "bad", just uninspiring), perhaps with the exception of the Chenin Blanc. But wine is a matter of taste, so I am sure others might like some of the wines on offer.

Well just as with the claret in the CCR there is quite a lot if hyperbole involved, and day zero has suddenly disappeared backwards into 2019.....

I'm still missing the Irn Bru they removed from the North Galleries back in 2008.
