Amazon Tours from Rio
I am traveling Feb 22-Mar 2 to Rio. Just bought a last minute ticket. I checked out some of the other posts in the forum and contacted a few tour operators but with no luck. Hoping for better advice from everyone here.
I am looking for tours to the Amazon from Rio ~ 4 days. Something that would include R/T airfare. The airfare is to Manaus seems to be ~ $800 which is higher than what I paid for BOS-RIO. Suggestions really appreciated!!! Thanks. |
TAM has its own tour operator (TAM Viagens www.tamviagens.com.br), I'm sure they would have a tour to the Amazon.
Another one you could try is Ambiental (www.ambiental.tur.br), they have a nice 4-day package on a jungle hotel (Ariaú Amazon Towers) for R$ 2,880 which is about US$1,650 right now. |
Miles,
Yes, there are plenty of tours. A couple of notes: 1) You will need a travel visa if you do not have one (or a passport from exempted foreign countries). It can take a minimum from 5-10 business days to get. I think it will be a couple hundred dollars ($100 visa fee + $130 processing fee). I've been through this process twice already and its a pain. 2) You will also want a Yellow Fever vaccine if in the Amazon, it is required for getting into other foreign countries afterwards. After you get down there, there are plenty of tours and options. I'd recommend checking out TAM. The big airline down there has all kinds of services. |
Thanks for all the help guys! I really appreciate it...I did apply for the visa and waiting now for pickup tomorrow. Fortunately there is a consulate here in Boston.
Thanks again! |
Get the Yellow Fever vaccine...my wife has family in Minas Gerais and its bad down there right now. I'll be there in April, can't wait.

update?
Hi miles_kay....
i'm in the same boat you were in back in feb/march. i'll be going to rio from Canada in early august and wanted to do a 4-day tour in the Amazon from Rio. I checked out the suggestions by the others (but the websites were in Portuguese!) I'm wondering if you could give me a little update on which travel company you went with and their contact information? Thanks so much! |
I'm not miles_kay, but we went on the Iberostar Grand Amazon boat if that's any help to you. Highly recommended.
