Just a heads up for those traveling to/thru GRU... it's an absolute nightmare.

Was flying on TAM from Salvador (SSA) to GRU to connect to Miami... the traffic is so bad that the TAM flight was an ahour and a half late and i was bumped to another connecting flight. I actually made it 50 minutes prior to boarding, but the security line was about 1000 people long (I am not exaggerating)... but it went relatively fast... was through in about 50 minutes... had it been a US airport it would have been 5 hours.

Until everything is worked out with Congonhas, i suggest staying away from GRU unless you have a big layover time or have no other choice.

I am connecting IAD-GRU-EZE on UA/TAM. International transit so should stay airside only. The connection is 2+ hrs. There is an earlier flight that leave 50 mins after the UA flight lands that I was hoping to get on (no check in bags..), am I dreaming? Is this a better question to ask on UA board

GRU is a nightmare and it's getting worse and worse. Allow yourself plenty of time to check in and to travel from GRU to town.

Last Thursday, it took me two hours to travel from GRU to downtown Sao Paulo. And on Friday, I was in line for 45 minutes to get through security and immigration in T2.

Sao Paulo and/or Brazil authorities need to do something to fix this situation. Business people, especially from those outside Brazil, will not put up with this inefficiency.
