No big surprise. Last couple of times I took this flight it was only 50% full.

What's the service like in business class on the GIG>JFK? I have an AA flight coming up that leaves at 23.00. Is there a (full) dinner service shortly after take off, or do folks simply take a light snack and drink and then bed down for the night and eat a breakfast before arrival?

Yes, full dinner service. Although if you just want to go straight to sleep, the lounge provides a dinner of sorts (pasta, chicken curry, etc).

Pretty much what any of us who fly from/to other northeast airports have been offered for decades, even those cities with substantial Brazilian populations.

I'd rather connect in GRU and fly nonstop into JFK. On a Delta or Gol ticket.

I agree that’s a better itinerary. You can do that on AA as well. One difference is that AA’s 777 business class seats are better than those on Delta One’s 767.

Delta uses an A330 on JFK-GRU with reverse herringbone seats

Why would you rely on Seatguru? It's generally beyond useless.
The DL website confirms 763 for April 2 Delta One 767-300 seat selection

I decided to skip my usual trip to Rio in September, the return trip to NY with the stopover in Miami at 4AM was awfully tiring. Oh well, at least there are still the seasonal direct flights from December 11 to March.

I agree, now for going down to Rio, which is better or worse, NY-PTY-GIG on Copa business, NY-ATL-GIG on Delta One, or NY-MIA-GIG on AA business?

According to Google flights, Delta will fly direct from NY to Rio from January 3 2020, and from Rio to NY until March 10 2020. American NY to Rio from December 18 2019 and Rio to NY until March 29 2020.

The Delta One seats on the old 767's are horrible! I was unable to bend my legs to sleep on my side as the seat's lie flat position is much too narrow. NY-ATL-GIG took 23 hours door to door (the plane broke down), and GIG-GRU-JFK took me 17 1/2 hours door to door.
