Pre-clearance potentially coming to GIG and GRU!!!

Probably will take a long time to happen if it does, but would be nice.

IMO it's almost a meaningless designation. EDI is on the list despite having just 1 flight a day to the US that isn't seasonal.

From memory the host airport also has to pay for the costs and the benefits to the airport are "hard to define".

It's great for people traveling to the US not to have to clear on arrival. Makes connecting in the US a heck of a lot easier I would assume.

It could be awful. For US-bound travel, the minimum connect times would probably get worse, and the check-in cut-off times may also get worse.

And the cost to staff US CBP employees at airports outside of the US is more expensive than it is to staff them at US airports.

More money, and more time for the ticketed portion of the trip? I do not welcome that.

I hate PreClearance and try to avoid such flights when I have a choice. Not only is there an early checkin cutoff but also after completing the procedures, you're commonly stuck in a holding pen without shops, F&B, or lounges.

I assumed it would make life easier, apparently that isn't the case based on all your commentaries.

I also try to avoid for those reasons in particular. It's usually not that great of a tradeoff, IMHO. Guess I wouldn't rule it out in the right circumstance but not my first choice.

There's no Global Entry, so there's no choice but to queue in line and deal with the often rude CBP agents.

We'll also have to see what the new administration in the US thinks about this...
