Flights to South Africa
My wife and I just did a trip to South Africa and loved it. Rumor has it flights can go as low as $300- can anyone confirm having seen or actually bought those prices? If true we will gladly be going back many times at those prices. We paid $750 for rt between rio and Johannesburg with a stop in SP which we thought was good. The flight there was pretty full but the way back was super empty- barely more than 50% full I would guess. Anyone with a lot of experience on this route?

U$300? WOW! (Even U$750 isn't bad.)
How about fares to anywhere else in Africa from S.P.? Maybe Dakar, Senegal? We're thinking of going to a music festival in December. |
Indeed, it does happen. Check out the link from Melhores Destinos for a sale back in August: ~U$300 (plus taxes) on SAA from SP. IIRC there was also a very good sale by LATAM when they inaugurated the route.
South Africa is a great country, and one of the few where our poor BRL stretches quite far these days! http://www.melhoresdestinos.com.br/p...-africa-do-sul For other destinations in Africa and Middle East, Ethiopian Air often has good deals. I believe they stop in Lome (Togo) on the way to Addis from SP, but you wouldn't be able to connect from there. Plenty of connections from Addis though. |
Thanks for the reply, this is awesome. Very true about SA being cheap even for brasilians. South Africa needs to do an advertising campaign in Brasil to get the word out about what it offers as a destination.
And as far as the rest of Africa goes...well this trip certainly stoked my curiosity but someone said something to me while there that stuck- "you haven't been to Africa until you've left South Africa" meaning SA really isn't Africa. So I'm going to dip my toe in one or two "real" African countries before I start going crazy about it, lol. |
Good plan - Africa is beautiful, the people are friendly, and apart from the conflict zones, it's generally no more dangerous than travelling around in Brazil.

I went to Nairobi with SAA from SP and I remember seeing just the JNB flight costing a little over $400, this was in August.
