Linha Vermelha very heavy.

It was 61 R$ on the way out to copa and then going back to GIG it ended up being 79R$

Driver seemed to take a little bit of a strange way at first, a little bit of back streets but eventually seem to join the main highway north. Was definitely milking it, but the one on the way down was great. Guess they just want a fair back if there not from that area. (this was on the 17th and 21st of December)

If you speak Portuguese or if you are lucky enough to get a driver who speaks english you can ask for a UBER at GIG.

Just choose a point in the map close to the airport, as soon as your driver accepts your ride, call him and tell that you actually are at GIG. He will pickup at parking lot.

At T1 just take the elevators down, at T2 the parking lot is across the street at arrivals level. It might be possible arrange to pickup at departure level in both terminals.

I recommend the parking lot to avoid problems with cab drivers and Uber drivers in Rio.

GIG - Downtown R$48 - 62

So it's about the same price as a regular yellow taxi, drivers mostly only speak Portuguese, AND you have the possibility of getting into a gang war among drivers? Gee, I'm dialing the Uber number right now....
