New Management for GIG

Wo-ho!! Just saw the news that GIG's got new management:

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...s/1307344.html

I hope this will lead to better services, facilities, lounges, etc.

The current situation is disappointing. Lounge facilities are very bad, and if you don't have access to lounge the air side is worst. Only a couple of small stalls selling drinks and overpriced snacks.

As this concerns Rio's airport, please follow the discussion as it moves to the dedicated forum on Brazil. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

MmmmHmmmmm. The Chinese, whose care in the manufacture of food and other products is well known, and Brazilians, who demonstrated once again during the WC and its construction phase that every project is yet another invitation to stuff your pockets,............Yup, a match made in heaven. :-))

Wow, and bilingual customer service! What a novel idea for an international airport! Bilingual Portuguses/Portunol? Bet they have to import those English/French/German/etc speakers from China. :-))

Em... Actually it's a Singaporean (not Chinese) company.

Bilingual customer service would probably mean Portuguese and English.

Outsourced to another country? :-). (Maybe like customer service in the US?)

No guarantee of better service and facilities but worth a shot. Read yesterday that GIG is now the third-busiest international airport in Brazil, with Brasilia having overtaken it (GRU still #1). Article said BSB had lowered fuel costs, attracting new carriers. I noticed that Delta is now flying 767s from BSB to ATL, vs. 757s. My wife said she read that the air traffic controllers at BSB have a bad rep. I haven't landed at, or taken off from, BSB on an international flight since the days of Transbrasil, when they flew from BSB to IAD and JFK.

Haven't found all that many bilingual services at Brazilian airports, but I imagine it's easier for an American or Brit to get assistance in English in a Brazilian airport than for a Brazilian to get assistance in Portuguese in the U.S., and maybe the U.K.

Customer service on the phone is different than customer service in an airport, of course.
