12 hours in GRU
 

I have 2 questions about my upcoming trip. First, I arrive in GRU from CNF around 900 on G3 and depart to IGU on JJ around 2300. Do JJ and G3 have an interline agreement? And is it worth trying to check through to IGU?

Second question is I have a long time in GRU. I've already been in SP so don't necessarily need to go into town but I'm wondering if there's a place near GRU where my colleagues and I could try some Feijoada?

I don't think you'll be able to check bags through if you have separate tickets (or it depends on the desk agent). I was refused through check on separate tickets, after having done it several times on the same ticket. (not exactly TAM-GOL, did GOL-AF and TAM-BA).

I honestly didn't think it would work. I'll still try and see what happens. The way I see it is the worse thing that can happen is they say no.

If you happen to have a Diner's Club card, there is a Diner's Club lounge in GRU where you can check your luggage for the day.

I don't have a Diner's Club Card but I have AmEx Platinum. Any chance the Centurion lounge also has baggage storage?

The Centurion Club doesn't have baggage storage. I'm not sure that there is anything that stops you from leaving your luggage there while you wander around (other than fear of theft), though. And the Amex Club definitely has better food than the Diners Club lounge. I left my luggage at the Diners Club lounge and hung out at the Amex lounge.

I wouldn't leave my bags in the Centurion Club-- which you can use with a Gold Card or better-- or any other place without guaranteed storage (btw, the only food I've seen there is small snacks). If someone walks off with the bags, AE has no responsibility. I believe there is a place in the airport terminal downstairs where you can leave bags for a fee. I haven't seen it, but have seen posts about it here.

GRU has paid lockers. I would just leave your bags there. It's more convenient and safer.

If there's no visa issue with leaving the transit area, why not get a day room at a hotel with a pool in nearby Guarulhos (town), leaving most of your bags in the airport Guarda Volumes (maybe R$10/day/large item). Some of the hotels have airport shuttles. And ask for a recco for a nice dinner somewhere in the neighborhood after a nice day beside the pool.

I did find the luggage lockers. They seemed reasonably priced. I didn't use them but one of my colleagues did. What was supposed to be an 11 hour layover for me turned into a much more reasonable one. I went to the TAM check-in to see if I could drop off my bags at 1200 for a 2300 flight and the woman there asked me if I would like the earlier flight instead. It boarded 30 minutes later.

I did strongly consider a day room and/or going to lunch in town with a colleague of mine who was staying in town. Both options seem like they would have been better than staying at the airport all day.

Guess your question has been implicitly answered, however just to reinforce - there is no interline agreement between JJ and G3.
