Feijoada in Sao Paulo
I have a 12 hour Sunday stopover at GRU in an upcoming mileage run, and would like to have some Feijoada. Any recommendations for a restaurant?
|
No recommendation for Feijoada, but checking to see if you need a visa and if so, do you have one, otherwise any recommendation would be pointless as you would need to clear customs. Also with a 12 hour layover, allowing for clearing customs on arrival and then check-in, security, and passport control on departure your 12 hours will dwindle to 9 or 10 at the most depending on time of day. It will dwindle further depending on how bad the notorious Sao Paulo traffic is, again depending on time of day and day of week. So if you can enter Brazil, the only recommendation I can make is don't travel too far from the airport. ;)

It's going to take forever to get anywhere, not to mention forever to get through customs/passport control/baggage/anything else. The airport is far from the city, really, so you're probably not going to have much luck.
I'll ask around here and post if anyone I know has suggestions. -Chris |
Feijoada on a Sunday? :)
It's not going to be easy to find any... Feijoada is primarily a Saturday tradition, and can alternatively be eaten on Wednesdays as well. Although I've heard that there is a place somewhere downtown that serves it 24/7. |
As MariaSF said, Feijoada is not a Sunday dish here, but this restaurant in Jardims seems to serve it every day (at a price ), and should be perfectly doable from GRU (aside from vias issues).
http://www.bolinha.com.br/ This is not a personal recommentation as I have never been but have heard good things about it. |
As it has been posted Sunday is no feijoada day. Those are Wednesday and Saturday but there are places that serve it everyday like Bolinha. Another place is Feijoada da Lana in Vila Madalena. Keep in mind that feijoada is a heavy dish, I wouldn't eat it before a long flight.
Sunday is the best day for arriving/departing GRU given lighter traffic so that will not be a problem. |

But if you must - you can find it all day every day in any shopping center food court at a chain called SP II with comida tipica da fazenda (although I think it may have changed its name as it has expanded from SP to the other states) Its a por kilo establishment so you can have as many beans as your heart desires :p |

Thanks for the pointers everyone. Even with customs and transport, I would have to think that a 12 hour layover would give me at least 4 or 5 hours in the city.
If Feijoada isn't the best option on a Sunday, any other restaurant recommendations? |

Expensive, but quite a classic in a great location. You must book. |
