I've bought GOL tickets with Amex no problems. I got a friend to buy my prepaid SIM, but heard of many people who went in with a passport, and had them activate it for them (since it prompts you for the CPF during activation).

That perhaps depends on the mobile operator or on where you're buying from.

Interesting people ask such questions after they'be booked their flights.
-I didn't know there were TAM lounges for domestic passengers. The one TAM Gold lounge I saw, at GIG, was in the international departures area.

TAM has 3 domestic lounges for their Fidelidade Red or *A Gold: in Rio (SDU), Florianopolis and CWB. They used to have one at GRU but itīs closed. The one handy is at SDU, itīs nothing special but itīs airside and gives a bit of piece from the crowds.

CPF is sort of like a Social Security Number. .

CPF is the Federal Tax ID for individuals. CNPJ is the Tax ID for companies.

[/Rant off]

CPF is needed if you want a full invoice "nota fiscal" in the state of S. Paulo. Youīll get credits towards other taxes but applies only to Brazilian or permanent residents.

Refering to the rest of your post, Brazil is not the States or Europe. You might need to fill out forms at the hotel, but you donīt need to do a nude-a-scope in the airport, or take your shoes off for domestic flights. Keeping in mind that different countries have different mentalities, cultures, processes gets us all a long way.

Brasil has done away with the customs form unless you have something to declare I haven't had to take my shoes off for international flights, either at GIG. A number of carriers do, however, conduct random searches as people are boarding.

Interesting about the customs form. We had to fill one out (one per family) as recently as early March, though that was at GRU.

Did they actually collect it at GRU in March? I had filled one out in Jan and at GIG as I tried to hand it to them they just waved me through. Since then some flight crews on UA even announce on board that the form is not needed unless one is going to declare something.

But then each port can do things differently. As a permanent resident in Brazil, I never fill out an immigration form at GIG. If I leave from GRU (which I usually avoid anyway) they always want me to fill out the immigration form as I'm leaving. Probably for tracking purposes. I explain that I will be returning via GIG where they don't care about the form and at GRU they tell me to fill it out anyway. So I do and then throw my copy away.
