Reroute and Downgrade (weather)
 

Hi. I was flying YVR-SFO-BOS-CLT-RSW in F last Thursday night. But then weather struck SFO, so I only flew YVR-SFO in F and SFO-ORD-RSW in Y.

I have all the flown boarding pass stubs and the ticket receipt for the original itinerary. Is that enough to get credit for original route? Is that even possible?

Also, does anyone know if I can seek compensation from UA for flying Y when paying F?

Well, your ticket receipt should be enough to rectify any missing mileage.

As to an involuntary downgrade - you'll need to take that up with the operating airline or travel agent for the difference in value in the services.

Compensation? Why??? I'd be grateful they got me home, given IrrOps.

Not compensation, just fare difference is what I was wondering.

bmi DC will credit as per fare paid, so no problem there. UA will probably weasle out of the refund issue citing weather being beyond their control. In the old days just complaining about such reroutes would send a decent UA voucher your way. I would still try.

Hang on, If I buy an F ticket and due to weather I am only able to travel in Y I would not get any compo? ...? Yes getting to my destination is the important thing but if I have paid 5x more than a discount Y fare and I end up in Y anyway I would defiantly feel cheated if I did not get a least a refund.
