Idle chat about redemption & the ba move

I have started the first of my probable ten calls to the call centre to try and find some business class flights to SJU for next year. If I could remember the name of the really helpful chap who is very creative in finding routes I might have sorted it in one phone call - never mind - the chap I spoke to was very polite but nothing available even though I suggested alternative routes from London and the ANA site shows availability maybe....
Had the official invitation to move to BA but how I understand it I have no choice...anyone know better ....so do I end up with more avios points...also unless I have missed something points & cash is a lot more with BA than the existing bmi/star alliance arrangement....

I'm finding it difficult to understand what your actual question is.

Just chit chat and seeing if I have missed anything - like does anyone know the chaps name at the call centre who is really good at finding flights .....

I think the perceived wisdom of this board is to try and find the routes and availability yourself, rather than leaving it down to ICC. You can then call them up with the specific flight numbers of each sector you want to fly.

If you don't have much experience of searching for availability, post your flight requirements on this thread, and some helpful soul will no doubt help you find what you need.

The stickies are full of idle chit-chat about lots of things.....

Thanks for the tip about posting the route required on the board.

London to San Juan (SJU) march next year (business) flexible dates but around two weeks in San Juan or a little less if over nights needed in either direction.

Managed to find lots of availability to Washington but nothing connecting onwards even a few days later but coming back there seems very little available that connects together. Thanks

The tip was to post it in the right thread......

Given the vague nature of the most recent thread, I have, in my wisdom, selected this new thread as the new home for the OP.

Threads merged.

[KVS Availability Tool 6.9.9.R2/Diamond - SNT: Awards/StarAlliance/JP-ANA-STD]
Code:

DUB  Dublin IE [EIDW]
MCO  Orlando Intl FL US [KMCO]
MON  04 Jun 2012 | 1 Seat

Carrier    Flight  From  Depart    To    Arrive    A/C  St  Availability

US        725    DUB  09:30    CLT  12:55    752  0  FS/  CS+  YS-
 -> US    733    CLT  16:20    ORL  17:57    321  0  FS+  CS-  YS-

See this flight here. Will this be the 18750 plus miles and cash, or will it be 31250 plus miles and cash?

I have DUB-LHR-IAD-MCO booked, but this would be so much better.

31250 because unfortunately DC will charge for an F level redemption...a pity that Y isn't available as it's only a short hop...CLT-MCO.

If it was part of a *A award using US Dividend Miles they would charge for a C award for domestic 'F'.

US does multiple dailies into Orlando, see if there's availability on any other flight, or via DCA/PHL.

Why not just book DUB-CLT on a DC award, and pay for the CLT-ORD hop. the YQ saving from moving to US may more than cover the cost of that leg (assuming your original wasn't on US in the first place).

I am trying to weigh up the pros and cons. The biggest pro is that the DUB-CLT flight clears immigration at DUB.

The Cons:

Its US Airways
Its not United
:p
I heard horror stories about immigration at both IAD and IAH. This will be probably my last miles and cash redemption, and wanted the UA/CO product. US is a bit hit and miss in a 757 out of DUB.
