why would they email me this when the only reason they have my email address is the fact that I have already joined!

Perhaps this is part of the ongoing plan to inflate the volume of DC members.

Can't think why they'd want to do that

You just beat me to it!

One can't help but wonder what part of "Digital Marketing Manager" is Elena Ragone's strong point...

Even if this was an agency cock-up, it's her signature on the mailout.

If this was failblog.org, that'd have to go down as an ElectronicDirectMailFAIL...

The best thing is, it addresses you by name. My first name appears nowhere on my email address, so it must be taken from their own database - it's not as if they have just bought a chunk of names and addresses from, er, whoever sells chunks of names and addresses.

I don't suppose one can email back and say, "Thanks - I'm already a member, but I'll take the 5000 miles, and you can upgrade me to Gold plus (which entitles card-holders to Ribena, Red Bull and Champagne as part of the meal deal)".

We'll probably all get another 2.500 miles as an appology for the cockup from the Digital Marketing Manager ...

Oh, I see there are two emails. Cairo and 5000 miles. Such choice!

Actually, there is a pretty good chance that they did get it from buying a marketing list somewhere. That they didn't filter the list against their known members is a bit unfortunate, but they probably bought a list from a hotel, car rental chain, CC company or similar outlet.

Another illusion shattered. But you're probably right.

No they didn't. I changed the e-mail address on my profile to brand new one a week ago, and only known to bmi diamond club. They have mailed me the "join and win a Cairo trip" on this address.

Crass nonsense, bmi.

Two accounts here (not mine), one silver (2 years old) and one blue (9 months old), both with dedicated, unchanged email addresses got the offer.

Numpties !

I had a scary moment where I thought disclosing my DC membership number to get a status match into another programme had been treated as some sort of authorisation to close my DC account.

Good to know I'd over analysed the situation and it is simply a cock up!

Sigh... the cleverness strikes here as well.

BMI is getting *very* clever
