Prize draw: win 2 business class tickets

I know this has been mentioned as a signup bonus in other threads, but I thought it was worth a thread of its own as the T&Cs have now appeared:

To be entered into the Promotion, join Diamond Club via the promotional web address given and enter your membership details for the chance to win two return business class tickets ("Prizes") or, if you are already a member, visit flybmi.com/wintickets and enter your membership details.

According to the t&cs, it's apparantly only open from 31/08/2008 until 14/09/2008. However, the other t&cs for the same competition say it runs from 01/08/2008 until 30/09/2008.

Still, get registering...

Didn't spot that... It's a bit ambiguous - on the optimistic side, it could mean that if you incur a tax liability as a result of this, then that's your problem. On the other hand, it could mean you have to pay all the taxes for your flight, which makes it considerably less attractive (and as you say, sounds like a Nigerian fraudster email!)

Do the T&Cs refer to taxes, or to taxes and fuel surcharges? That would make a major difference....

They refer to "tax and service charge liability" :

Winners are liable for any tax and service charge liability accruing as a result of this Promotion.

I'm not really sure what they mean by that...

I'm sure this will relate to all taxes and fuel surcharges etc, just as if you were booking an award redemption.

Well, if one were to take them at their word...

A fuel surcharge is not a tax, and it is not a service charge.

Exactly !

That's the very reason I'd enter and hope to win, just so I could hold them to the exact wording of their T&C.

Governments charge taxes, airport operators have service charges.

Don't worry, I think we have some legal advisers on here who could help with that too. Paging Flying Lawyer!

That's what I want to read into it as well. Whether it was the intention of the person writing up the T&Cs is another question.

Much as I would love to win, I guess my chances are small.. however.. taxes and/or service charge are OK I guess.. better than a Jet2 flight to scumsville.

BD could just create a competition winner service charge that happens to match the fuel surcharges?
