Breakfast Panini vs. Cheese Toastie !
Okay, so which is best?
Having had the panini a few times, and been fairly underwhelmed, on my EDI-LHR today I had the toastie.
I am shocked they can serve such a thing with a straight face, let alone call it a "Toastie". Then is nothing 'toastie' about the thing.. a micro-wave zapped, wallpaper-paste consistency slab of cheesy sludge.. that leaves you with an after-taste that has taken much sauvignon blanc to disguise and hands smelling like you've been rummaging around in the bins in a local fastfood burger joint.
Ugh!

Actually I quite like the toastie
Mind you, I'm usually hungover and ravenous on breakfast flights which might affect my taste buds ...
Only thing is, you need industrial strength heat-resistant gloves to handle the toastie. It is usually hotter than the earth's core.

Panini for me but you have to make sure you hold it from the right end so the contents don't slip out all over you and/or your clothes and burn and/or dirty you.

Be careful of microwaved products containing cheese - or anything which will stick to your esophagus.
Like asbestos, we love it now - but in 10 years time we'll all be suing the airlines for serving microwaved food!

I'm holding out for the opportunity to sue the inventor of "squirty cream"

Ever tried the toastie after it goes cold? I have, it takes a while (about three weeks) to cool down but they kind of solidify into a cheesy/lardy lump, really quite nice. I discovered this after being served just before we landed so wasn't time to eat it. Found it in my bag that night on the train and dined like a king.

Sounds like they'd make good hand warmers during the winter months.
I suppose you could argue that these are more efficient at absorbing the heat than the panini and therefore more environmentally friendly

Both disgusting and barely edible. I was SO disappointed the first time I tried them....I usually just have a [cold] sandwich...

Are the short-haul toasties the same as the long-haul economy ones?
I suppose not?
I remember, albeit years ago now, the one I got (in Y) had been cooked to the extent it'd dried out inside...
