OT:Silverjet BOGOF

As there is no star alliance flights to NYC I have taken Silverjet a few times and they are really great airline. Offer in The Times started yesterday works out at £1099 for 2 people in July and August, you need to collect passwords, first of which was New York....:)

irmster Feb 17, 2008 4:49 am

of course you are taking the risk that they will still be around in the Summer.

They will be following Maxjet....tis only a matter of time.......

Swanhunter Feb 17, 2008 6:25 am

Book with a credit card, just in case.

Is this BOGOF offer valid for both EWR and DXB? Will be very useful if I can use it for DXB. Flew Y7 last week and they are not bad. LTN experience very pleasant although the DXB arrival lets them down a bit as they take your passports from you to get entry stamp whilst you are enjoying breakfast in the lounge but it takes them so long to return passport to you and then there are never any taxis at the executive terminal so you wait 30+ minutes. Works out quite a bit slower than arriving at Terminal 1.

Are you sure about the £1099 part? I thought from reading the small print in the Times yesterday that it was £1099 for the first ticket and then you had to pay taxes and charges for the 2nd ticket, making it around £1450 for two tickets, which isn't bad, but not quite the £1099 that they suggest.

scozer99 Feb 18, 2008 1:56 am

Offer is valid to NY or Dubai, taxes and fees on 2nd ticket amount to approx £75 on the Newark trip.

Raffles Feb 18, 2008 1:58 am

I thought £1,099 was the tax inclusive price of the 1st ticket, so the total for 2 would be around £1,250 - £1,300.

An excellent deal IF you pay by credit card and, potentially, hold mileage tickets as back up. If they go bust 3 weeks before travel you may struggle to rearrange at a low price ...

ignore the doom-sayers in the press....Silverjet have enough cash to see them through the summer, rumor had it a while ago that they may end up part of the Lufthansa group.

I would urge the opposite - be very careful. January traffic stats were 54% - break even is 65%. It's a viscous circle - there has been so much negativity since Maxjet went under - whether it is justified or not - their forward bookings are only going to get worse.

Yes they could be taken over - more likely they'll just call it a day while they still have some cash/assets left.

RAPC Feb 18, 2008 3:38 am

I'd suggest caution as well, although I do hope that they do prosper and do well.

They are doing travel trade fares at the moment for less than £600, which suggests that they are aggressively price cutting to improve loads and ensure some cash is coming in during quiet periods.

As Raffles rightly suggests, pay by credit card just to be safe.

Thanks! Was hoping it might be a simple BOGOF that I could use for a one-way back from NYC in the summer instead of burning the last of my BMI miles.
