Help with FAQ: Earning non *A wetlease partners

Hi All,

I want to add a section to the bmi FAQ for a familiar question: I am flying X-Y on a *A flight number, but operated by a wetlease partner, will I earn miles?

For example: I am travelling on LX18 ZRH-EWR, operated by Privatair, will I earn miles?

The answer to this is YES, because Privatair is operating the service on behalf of Swiss, not in conjunction with or as a codeshare. Rule of thumb is whose uniform is being worn?

So, I would like CONFIRMED reports of this type:

LX: Privatair, Helvetic

LH: Privatair, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings, Cityline

OS: Austrian Arrows (Tyrolean), Lauda

UA: (Basically anything listed as UAX) SkyWest, Colgan, Mesa, Go Jet, Shuttle America, Chautauqua, Trans States

ANA: All Nippon, Air Central, IBEX, Air Nippon, Air Japan

You can add 'Cirrus' to LX who operate the ZRH-PRG service, and yes miles are earned.

I can definitely confirm Helvetic on ZRH-BUD and SkyWest and Mesa on countless flights. AFAIK, the key is whether the flight is marketed exclusively by the *A airline or marketed by the *A airline AND independently by the operating carrier. In the former case, it qualifies whereas in the latter it does not (unless the carrier is itself a *A airline, of course). The nature of the legal arrangement between the marketing carrier and the operating carrier (wet lease, franchise, etc...) is a secondary issue.

Would this not be of interest to StarAlliance as a whole?? I'm not saying it's not welcome here, just that maybe others might be able to benefit from your efforts too?

(There is a similar thing in the StarAlliance forum but it's not exactly long the same lines).

Then again, I suppose BD flyers are more wary of wetleases than other *A FFP members!

...but only "sometimes" for Cirrus and LH

e.g. LCY-MUC in the days when it was operated by Cirrus, was not a wet-lease but a codeshare... Not that anybody could tell, as it was Lufty check in, Lufty boarding pass, Lufty ticket, Lufty flight number, Lufty food and cutlery. But no miles

Don't remember about the uniform, sorry, it all looks the same to me...

Flew JFK-IAD on S5 (Shuttle America) in F earlier this year, on a UA flight. Scored the correct number of miles. Nice, new, E70.

This thread died a death at the time... however, it is a useful thing to add to the FAQ,s so let's try again.

As luck would have it, I have 2 Air Dolomiti segments coming up shortly in the range LH39.. will this earn BD miles?

Having searched before for Air Dolomiti, the consensus was 'yes'.

Anyone know who operates ZRH-NUE on behalf of LX?

Anyone got any idea of how the earning will work for the upcoming EI operated UA flights between MAD and Dulles?

Almost definitely no. The EI/UA deal is not a true wet lease as EI crew will be in EI garb when serving pax. As EI is not a member of *A, you won't get miles.

Most (not all however) wet lease jobs involved crew who are dressed to look like the carrier they are representing.

Which is LX's regional 100% owned subsidiary (full *A partner) and therefore earns BD status & destination miles.
