Am I right in thinking this only applies to certain flights, i.e. Heathrow to Hamburg but not City to Hamburg?

Codeshares apply to specific flights.

FWIW, there are numerous BD codeshares operating out of LCY.

Thats odd, it shows LCY-HAM-LCY in the timetable but you can't select on the website...

DUS ex LCY is a codeshare, was on it the other week. But why it does matter?

Ok I called BMI, you can't book LCY-HAM via their website, need to call (India) to book.
