Power points on A330

The Lounge family is travelling in C on the A330 to LAS next wekend. I see that there are seat power points. Since the young Lounges have many toys (portable DVDs, PSPs etc.) which they wish to use on board. What connector types does the power point have - 12 volt car type hopefully?

Nope, it's the Empower Type...but you can ask for an adaptor from the Cabin Crew. Unfortunatly they don't have pins that will fit Dell computers etc. because Dell prevent anyone but themselves to sell them (and they don't sell them individually).

I've got a photo somewhere. I'll see if I can host it.

I may be worth getting one from ebay before you travel, last time I asked for an adaptor the FA said they only have them for laptops and not 3 pin plugs. This meant that my aging ipod gave up 3 hours out of ORD, grrrr.

Thanks jbfield^ Very helpful:)

Thanks also BigVince 76^ Unfortunately the ebay adaptors currently on sale have auction end dates too close to our travel date.

We will need to take it as we find it obviously.

I just managed to get a pin for my new Dell 640m from Kensington online (£8.60 inc shipping). It assumes of course you have the Kensington power lump. Certainly cheaper than starting again with Dell and I'm not even convinced they have an Empower solution for the 640 - looked like their pack only included a cigar lighter adaptor although difficult to tell of course.

I have the Kensington "Universal 120W DC Power Adaptor" which I bought off the Dell website about 6 months ago. It was £60 including postage at the time and I'm quite pleased with it. Certainly a very small and light piece of kit.

On the website it only shows the Cigarette Lighter Plug, but it does also have an Empower Plug. The Empower plug actually slots into the back of the Cigarette lighter adaptor which is why they only show one. This is probably the same connector you have bought so you should be ok.

They then also supply a number of plugs for the other end of the cable so you can use it with a range of computers/ipods etc. Knowning exactly which plug fits which computer when you're trying to buy the thing can be the challenge though!

If they sold this device as an AC/DC version in the UK it would be great but unfortunately they do that in other countries, so you still can't use it to get power from the mains electricity when on the ground.
