How many BD miles will I get for this sector? In economy? It's 185 miles in distance, do I get 600 miles? I'm 382 miles away from gold renewal and this is the last flight before my renewal date! Can I have mileage quotes for discount and full Y please.

Lots.

ajamieson Jun 11, 2007 4:49 am

I presume you're asking this here because you are unable to look it up on flybmi.com?

According to flybmi.com, you will get 600 x 1.0 for fare buckets S,Y,B,E,M,H,W,L,K and U and 600 x 1.5 for Z,C,D and J.

Good lord. I know it's Monday but when I went to www.flybmi.com I read this...

The number of miles you will earn on qualifying fares depends on who you fly with and where you fly to. The simplest way to see how miles are awarded is to check out the "earning miles when you fly" table below. Every time you fly with bmi or a Star Alliance member airline on a qualifying fare you'll earn both membership status and destinations miles. With bmibaby, Virgin Atlantic, Qatar Airways and Transaero Airlines you'll earn destinations miles for each qualifying one-way flight. Please note that to be eligible for earning miles, a flight must be operated by bmi or one of our airline partners.
miles earned
all bmi UK domestic flights and partner flights of less than 600 miles in distance 600 miles earned for each one way
all bmi non UK domestic flights of less than 800 miles in distance 800 miles earned for each one way
all bmi flights of more than 800 miles in distance and non bmi flights of more than 600 miles in distance travelled 1 mile earned for each mile travelled

To calculate the total miles you'll earn for your flight, simply multiply the above miles by the factors shown below depending on the type of ticket you're travelling on. Please note the miles you earn depends on the airline operating the flight. In the case of codeshare flights with partner airlines, the operating carriers' miles earning structure will apply.

fare type no of miles earned applicable classes UK and Europe applicable classes longhaul routes
business fares & premium economy x 2.0 c, d, j, y c, d, j

standard - discounted economy x 0.5 m, h, q, v, g, o, w, t, n,e

Please note free award flights are non-earning.

The bit in bold being the ambiguity. It only talks about BMI flights having a minimum credit. I'm in full Y as it happens.

EDIT: My wrong I missed the bit about 'partners'. Promise, I did try to find the information first.

SQFAN Jun 11, 2007 12:16 pm

FWIW, I received 600 miles on discounted econ. Can't remember which booking fare class though.

jjpb3 Jun 11, 2007 1:23 pm

SIN-KUL shuttle flights in economy are never in the non-mileage earning classes (unless you're flying on an award ticket). You'll get 600 miles in your diamond club account.

If this is booked as a single ticket on it's own then you'd be better going on MH and paying the little extra to go in F (which is basically J) and enjoy their excellent F lounge at KUL. It's only a short flight but still worth avoiding their grubby 734's for a larger A330 as they use both on the route.

Its the same price to travel in SQ F as well (although the seats are the regional J seats) which isn't much more than the Y fare. I'm not too familiar with the MH F lounge at KUL - is it worth missing out on the *A miles for?

If you have not been there, and you plan to enjoy a day there (check-in early and take the late evening flight out).. :D

You can maybe credit the MH miles to some of their partner programs.. FB, NW, Virgin's, and some others.. (do check the T&C of these programs on MH crediting eligibility)

Take care that if you intend to do this roundtrip, you would need to get the tickets as one-way, as it is not possible (yes, even with F class) to change from one to the other carrier without paying some surcharge. I have been stung by this :(

:)

If it is just 600 miles then I think so but that's for you to call.

If flying SIN-KUL then SQ F is the way to go as you can access the SKL F lounge at Changi and drink the value of the ticket in Dom, if you so wish. :)

For KUL-SIN MH F is the way to go as SQ's lounge at KUL is crap whereas the MH F lounge is excellent.

Both of them just sell as Y and F even though it's just the J product. It's a stitch up to be honest as the flights are expensive but MH have just blocked a new bilateral opening the route up to competition. Not every flight is in regional J on SQ, you sometimes get a SpaceBed equipped 772ER. I did on my last SIN-KUL run. Although having the Prime Minister onboard may have assisted somewhat.

The actual flight time is only about 30 minutes, unless you come into Changi from the South instead of the North which adds up to 10 minutes.

Thats a shame. It would be nice to have someone like Air Asia come in and break up the duopoly and offer the kind of fare you'd expect to pay for a <200 mile flight. But I don't blame SQ and MH for wanting to protect their cozy position.

I agree, and I think the blame for keeping it that way should be directed mainly at the larger of the two countries.

A few months ago it looked quite good with Tony Fernandez of Air Asia confident that at least one LCC from each would be given access later this year. This would have been AK themselves from Malaysia and Tiger from Singapore.

However, MH have been forcefully against this all the way and their pressure seems to have paid off. I think the KUL-SIN shuttle is the only regularly profitable route they fly.

It won't really matter from 2008 as there is supposed to be a full ASEAN area Open Skies coming into effect I believe.

lots@LHR Jun 13, 2007 4:07 am

I am actually flying from KBR to SIN via KUL. I'm flying SQ on the KUL-SIN leg solely for the shorter connection and the 600 miles.

Not true

The SQ local promo fares (min 2 pax travelling) are in a lower fare class and earn no mileage

Thru fares on lower fare classes (e.g. AMS-SIN-KUL in V) earn no mileage

The walk up shuttle fares and normal single tickets are ticketed in Y though, and will earn 600 miles (or 1200 in F - bargain!)
