when u receive ur silver and gold cards, ur status miles are reset to zero. does this also happen when u receive ur first blue card at 3,000 miles? i ask because i've just joined dc, but tend not to use *a for short flights and don't want to put 12,000 *a status miles into my dc account if 9,000 of them will be cancelled immediately.

No you don't loose them.
The 3000 membership status miles bit is simply to reduce costs - no need to issue endless plastic cards etc. to people who aren't going to fly with bmi more [in the eyes of diamond club].

Just to continue the scenario, if you credited say 20k miles on to a blue a/c, then you would turn Silver at 16K. The balance of 4k status miles would be returned to you a few days later, after the web monkeys have taken out their abacus.

However, your destination miles are never reset to zero.

hi there, just to continue this thread a little further. I have a diamond club account with miles only, no status miles at present. I would be really grateful if anyone on here could provide answers to some of the following questions!

If I do not have a physical Diamond Club card as yet (i.e. no blue membership), but credit 20k miles (say for example from an SQ flight, not a BMI one), will this automatically give me silver membership?
i.e. would i be sent a silver members card, not a blue one first?

For example if I book a W class flight on SQ and put this onto my DC account, will that definately give me 1 status mile for every mile flown?

If you have enrolled in diamond club, then you have blue membership. The 3,000 mile minimum is simply to avoid posting lots of cards to people who sign up and never fly.

Can't imagine that you'd post 20,000 miles in one go. I'm guessing you're off to Australia -- if so, and by way of example: LHR-SIN-SYD is about 10,670 miles, which would trigger your blue card mail-out. The return SYD-SIN-LHR gets another 10,670 miles and qualifies you for silver membership. You'd probably find both cards waiting at home.

Usually, these days. And we tend to let diamond club know if there are any inconsistencies. ;)

Does it work the same way when Silver membership is renewed? I currently have Silver membership and have earned just over 16k status miles so far during my current membership year which ends in May. I'll earn some more status miles before then but not enough to go up to Gold. If I have 20k status miles, for example, when my Silver membership is renewed in May will I lose the "extra" 4k or will they count towards the status miles target for my next membership year?

No, the status miles will simply reset to 0 at the end of your membership year. So in this case you will lose any miles over 16K.

I qualified for Silver status over the Xmas/New Year period but haven't received my Silver card yet. Anyone know how long it normally takes to arrive?

The status is updated online usually pretty quickly (a week or two). Receiving the card can take longer. I'd hazard a guess of 4 to 6 weeks for most, but possibly more. Check online to see whether your status has been updated. If not, check what has posted and what has not. It may well be that some flights have not posted and that you need to pursue that.

I thought that this principle only applied to members already having attained gold status that would not be entitled to 'carry over' status miles in excess of 38k.

My senario:

Currently silver - membership year ends in a few days - currently have 34k status miles

Am i back to zero status miles next week and starting all over again??

That is pretty much what status is all about. Get it / maintain it by flying the requisite number of miles per year (or 1 of 2 years for LH).

Yes, although bmi don't seem to require the initial 16000 status miles required to achieve silver status to be obtained within one year.
