Quite agree. There is certainly no grey area there.

So you still think it's "theft"?

Crikey - I didn't realise what I was starting with this thread.

My take is that it doesn't amount to theft, but is against the rules. However in all of my many visits to the DC lounges I've never noticed the signs stating that food/drink needs to be consumed within the lounge.

Those who believe it is theft should perhaps just pray for the souls of those of us who take the occassional bottle of water or packet of shortbread.

If a man steals a packet of stem ginger biscuits to feed his starving family, is that wrong?

Yes that's wrong on two accounts!
1. Taking two packets would have been better than taking one in that case.
2. Walker's Shortbread would have been more filling than the Stem Ginger and would have had a higher fat/energy content.

I don't care if it's theft or against the rules -- the policy is ridiculous. As our AAmerican friends might say: "Why nickle and dime your best customers?"

Is bmi really saying that they can't provide me, or any of their premium/frequent flying customers with one measly bottle of water? In the quantities that they buy them the cost must be negligible.

You see bmi, here's the kicker for you: BA staff have never challenged me over a bottle of water or a newspaper.

To be fair, so far, neither have bmi staff. (Atleast IME with a bottle of water and a paper!)

Since you all have, I'll thrown in my take on it too...

It's against the DC lounge rules but is not theft.
However, I believe that they only have the rule (food to only be consumed in the lounge) as a measure enabling them to take action when people do step across the line and abuse the lounge, i.e. when they take hoards of food.

Although I must admit I've never had the fortune to actually use a lounge.

I have just been appointed as Biscuit Bunny. Call me "Ginger".

If it is in the hand it will be confiscated. If it is in the mouth, but not gone down, give back what's left. If it's gone down you can keep it.

There is a vancancy for a Water Walter and a Colin Coke.

New signs in the MAN lounge today: "Please enjoy these refreshments within the bmi lounge".

Have some people NOT been enjoying them?

[sentence deleted by the moderator to remove reference to moderation and reference to an individual flyertalker]

WE all know that BMI flyers are like most other FF's in Europe and we dont abuse the system, we actually usually go out of our wa to protect it.

Never in a month of sundays is BMI going to stop providing drinks and snacks because someone took a bloody biscuit with them or a bottle of water to finish off.

However ??? how long before some seriously P*****D off customer gets the lounge treatment for daring to buy a tiny fare and use the lounge and then he drops something in the already opened 1.5 lt bottle that then causes some serious stomach problems for those that follow using the bottle. That is one good reason these kind of places use individually packed drinks and snacks, not so you can snaek them on your pocket.

Some of the posts here and in other threads suggest the current system is being abused by some.

The last suggestion is laughable. Of course there is a far simpler solution available to BMI if in fact any customers would stoop to putting stuff in the drinks - not offer any at all.

Ha! I love the idea that SMB is treating us like naughty schoolkids.

Personally, I'm buggering off to the 6th form college down the road. It's much nicer.
