Leaving BMI for BA, here is what I am going to do

Well since I have already dumped BMI, and will only return if BMI re-think, here is my plan.

AA platinum challenge, is where I am heading, 10,000 miles in 90 days from what I can see it gets you Oneworld sapphire status so there is the lounge access when travelling on BA.

I am just booking a business class flight to OZ that I would normally flown with SQ but since BMI suck, I am going to fly with Qantas so I will get Platinum status with AA and Sapphire with Oneworld by the time I hit Australia and have lounge access for the return trip very nice

Or you could do just buy a QF Club pass.

Gets you lounge access (including domestics!) on BA/AA/QF.
And all elite check-in beefits etc as well when travelling QF.

Here are some sample fares for you to mull over:

EDI-LHR routing, lowest available economy fares including taxes/surcharges and relate to mid week travel (out Wednesday, back Thursday)
Code:
Advance booking BMI BA
2 days £271.30* S/B £184.20 M/H
1 week £178.30* Q/B £120.20 V/M
1 month £78.30* T/V £79.20 N/V
2 months £48.30* N/N £64.20 N/N

* does not include £4.85 cc booking surcharge
The N class comparison is particularly revealing both being lowest possible fares - BMI's headline fare is astonishingly low at £1 each way but delta closes in to £18 once taxes/fees are added. That said, for loco service it certainly compares well with Easyjet when you book far enough in advance. Question is, would you pay the extra for the notorious "something sweet" and two GnT's?

And even more curious...

I checked out Jet2 (LCC from Gatwick). Althought the fare was higher than tiny
the taxes were cheaper. How can this be? Is it just a Gatwich/Heathrow thing?
Flights - LONDON GATWICK (South) to MANCHESTER Terminal 1 Flight Date From To Departs Arrives
LS904 10 August 2005 LONDON GATWICK (South) MANCHESTER Terminal 1 16:10 17:15
LS903 11 August 2005 MANCHESTER Terminal 1 LONDON GATWICK (South) 14:30 15:35

PLEASE NOTE: All flight times are local and in 24 hour clock. For flights that are very early in the morning (i.e. just after midnight) check-in opens the previous evening 2 hours before the time of your departure. For example: A flight at 00:30 on Monday the 23rd departs in the very early hours of Monday morning so check-in opens at 22:30 on the evening of Sunday the 22nd.
Jet 2:
Total costs for the selected flights Pricing
Outbound flight per adult/child
Fare £ 9.00
Taxes & Airport charges £ 14.00
Total £ 23.00

Return flight per adult/child
Fare £ 9.00
Taxes & Airport charges £ 14.00
Total £ 23.00

Total per adult/child £ 46.00
Total for 1 passenger £ 46.00

very little difference in PSC at LHR and LGW. Most likely to be be fuel surcharges on BD.

Careful -- aa.com adds taxes/fees/charges at the end of the booking process now.

Yes you are right. I rechecked the flights. Although the headline flight was £35, it did not include taxes and fees. The final cost was £58. Still cheaper than BA - £64.50
